Product Description

Another Sexploitation classic from the erotic imagination of Porno Chic veteran Radley Metzger...

From an age before the hardcore explicitness of Porno Chic comes a swingin late 60s erotic film brimming with Italian opulence, liberated sex and modish inflatable furniture.

When Marguerite, a promiscuous woman with a troubled past and a deep distrust of men meets Armand, she lets her guard down and falls in love. But can they resist old habits and latent emotions in order to stay together? Find out in this visual, sensual cinematic feast of multiple sexual partners, from the director of Score and The Opening Of Misty Beethoven.

A vivid mix of colour, grandiose set design, bizarre costumes and frank sexuality, Camille 2000 is an essential piece of erotic film history and a must see for cult movie fans.

The work of Radley Metzger is not well known in the UK, now with the release of his signature work we might at last be able to appreciate the Orson Welles of Softcore. A dazzling update of Dumas' 'Lady of the Camellias' finds Metzger giving an alternate view of what the year 2000 might look like from a late sixties perspective. Most will find he was rather more accurate than Kubrick in this portrait of the idle rich cavorting across the continent of Europe in an endless series of orgies and parties. Softcore was never meant to be as stylish as this, and although the film can be seen as merely a piece of vintage Eurocheese it stands head and shoulders above the legions of Spanish, Italian and French sex-romps of this time. Metzger knows how to frame stunning cinemascope compositions and your eyes will be ravished with them from the first shot onwards. The story tells of an ill-fated love affair between the troubled Camille (Danielle Gaubert) and Arnaud (Nini Castelnuovo from 'Umbrellas of Cherbourg')and their doomed love affair. The film gives you a rare chance to see the charms of Sylvana Venturelli as the hedonistic Olympe, if ever there was someone who should have been a Bond girl, it is Venturelli. Highlight of the film is the ten-minute party sequence where Venturelli wears an amazing metal dress and Piero Piccioni's amazing score reaches an orgasmic crescendo.
We can only hope that 'The Lickerish Quartet' is soon on its way, more Venturelli and even more amazing film!
Ignore any other film in the shops, this is the one you'll watch over and over again. A triumph!!

This is an exquisitely filmed, but essentially rather vacuous piece of cinema. Credit must go to the restorers who have done an amazing job of bringing the director's vision alive to a modern audience. Each scene is beautifully and meticulously framed - a veritable visual feast. True, the actors and actresses are lovely to look at, too, but you are left not really caring about their fates. It would probably be fair to say that something has been lost in the dubbing, but I rather think that this would not stop this film from being rather stilted and slow-paced. So, five stars for its artistic qualities and one star for the 'story-line' and acting!

In the year 1971 (not 2000) Marguerite Gautier (Danièle Gaubert) is a drug using party girl who lives in the manor of the Duke in Rome. Young rich son of a businessman Armand Duval (Nino Castelnuovo) becomes infatuated with her and is warned about her. His friend has other recommendations (I would have taken the young red-haired girl) but Armand is set on breaking his heart and his own destruction. The two indeed hook-up, but Marguerite (not named Camille) has other lovers.

I liked the retro style. No cell phones, mini skirts, mirrors everywhere, and clear plastic air filled furniture being sheik, but not really practical with all those indoor smokers. Looks like lava lamps and black light posters were for us poor slobs and Peter Fonda films.

As a drama/romance it was pretty much the pits. The acting wasn't there. The plot was not convincing and if the women didn't run around naked/half naked I would have never watched it. BTW more nudity in the outtakes. The restoration was a B+ to A-. There were a few scenes where you could see the age of the film. If you look at the bonus material and trailers, you get a good idea about the original condition.

Guide: sex and nudity. Not much swearing. Inspired by Dumas' ""The Lady of the Camellias"

A real opportunity missed this one. The film has some incredibly beautiful actors and actresses, great pop art costumes and set design and a really funky score by Piero Piccioni. Everything you might expect from a film from 1969.

The downside is the total lack of plot. It's just about a bunch of vacuous celebrities and the various parties they go to. A bit like a super stylish pop art version of 'OK' magazine or the life of Jordan. Take away the costumes, set and soundtrack and you're left with absolutely nothing, and a rather painful 115 minutes of nothing at that!

Beautiful film with glorious shots of Italy. I love the music and the vibe. Every shot is like a photograph, colourful, splendid. Even though it's marketed wrongly by arrow as a 'sexploitation' it is far from that; what you have instead is an erotic story told artfully through Metzger's visionary talent of filmmaking. There isn't even any full frontal nudity, just quite a bit of sex, very softcore. The film left me speechless. If you love the 60's then you'll definitely love this masterpiece.

This is a film that is visually quite interesting as far as wardrobe goes. Its all very fashionable and Italian. Shot in the late 60's and set in a vaguely futuristic period that time has reduced to just being 1969. It has a softcore euro-porn aspect and a cult soundtrack. The story is not so engaging but that isn't why this film has a cult following. It's really about the incredible outfits and beautiful girls and all the set design with inflatable furniture and Joe Cessare Columbo esque elements.

The art direction is amazing. If you like rome and the Argentario, you will find this film fascinating. Actors ham it up but he leading lady is absolutely beautiful.
