Overall happy

Overall happy
I bought this tablet mostly to read Kindle books and not to have to take my laptop with me when I travel abroad. It's a great little machine, especially for the price. I can't afford those expensive tablets, and all I want is to be able to read books, check my emails, chat, play some games like sudoku, checkers, etc.. and watch some videos. I'm new into tablets' world, and learning more and more. The only problem I had is when my Amazon Kindle didn't want to open when my tablet is offline.. But I contacted Amazon support team, and they explained to me how to 1-deregister my device, 2- uninstall the Amazon Kindle app, 3- find the app in Goolge Play store and install it, then log into my Amazon account; it was all sorted. And the new Amazon Kindle app was even much better than the one that came installed in the tablet. So, in case anyone has this problem with the Kindle, you know what to do to fix it. I intend to get a MicroSD to increase the storage capacity. There is a mistake in the product info, there is no camera, it's a webcam.. but that doesn't bother me, because I got a high resolution digital camera, and didn't buy this tablet to be taking pictures. lol! Pity bluetooth isn't available with this tablet. But I'm still impressed! Good value!

I ordered this device at about 3.00pm 10/11/2011 and it arrived before 10.00am NEXT DAY! The packaging was good but the enclosed leads were not in their bags, this would not have registered as odd but the torn open bags were all in the box and the unit was fully charged. That said the unit showed no signs of use and the protective plastic covers were intact.
As stated it was fully charged and I took it to my daughters wedding that afternoon and immediately after filming the service I put the micro SDHC card from my camera into it into it and it played the HD video with no problems at all. I connected my 3 Mobile HUAEWI E1550 3G USB stick and it just worked with no other setting up required. Likewise it found my WiFi router immedately and after entering my network key connected with no problems.
The screen is responsive and very useable. I bought a 16Gb micro SD card and downloaded my Kindle collection onto it and that all works ok.
I still need to learn more about Android to get the most out of it but overall I am very pleased with it. Well worth the money and a great introduction to Android tablet PCs at an affordable price.

Update 8/12/11
Having had the item for about a month now and learnt a bit about Android (Yes I know a month is not long to learn about an operating system but I have been a PC support engineer since Windows 2) I am absolutely delighted with the G7-II. It is fast, uses ordinary web pages as opposed to cut down phone pages, the available apps are good including many free programs. The battery life has improved after a few full discharge and recharge cycles and can easily last through 2 full length films, converted from DVDs on my PC with free DVD to MP4 converters of which there many on the web. The addition of a 16Gb micro SD card means I have 10 films and 25 novels to watch and read anywhere and the included car charger means I always have it with me.
An aside, some other reviewers have said that the on screen keyboard is erratic if used while charging, I bought a case from a supplier on Amazon for around £8.00, to protect it, the case had a built in USB keyboard and this not only cures the problem but turns the device into a mini laptop, (the on screen keyboard can be disabled in settings). Superb 11 out of 10!!

Well now! I bought this after reading the other reports on here, and I'm almost pleased but not quite. The unit is well made but has a stupid logo on the back of the unit that was probably designed by an out of work tree surgeon. I'm an artist and the logo is far far too large. That aside I had a bit of trouble getting the device to latch on to my wi-fi in the house. Eventually it hunted for some minutes... and there it was. By the way, it remembers all the details, so you don't have to keep signing in.
Now for the nitty gritty - The sound quality is not very good and there is hardly any volume to speak of. If my sat-nav (tom tom) can have brilliant sound and in comparison to this device smaller in size, why can't this device have a decent speaker?
The other 'fault',if it is a fault? is that there is a front facing camera. I fail to see what use this is unless you are using an application like Skype where you obviously need it. Its very hit and miss if you need to take a photo of anything facing away from you as you have to guess where the subject is. So it desperately needs another camera on it. (Thank goodness for digital pocket cameras. At least you can use the miniature usb coupling(supplied) to download photos.
Having pointed out the two major niggles the rest of the device is, well, excellent! The on screen keyboard is positive and not over sensitive. The installed apps are sort of ok but the office application will be deleted as I have my own favourite, and the clock settings is hidden below the page and it took me some while to realise that.I tried out the BBC player and while I had buffering problems, it played quite well...BUT THAT SOUND!!!???
Definitely need to use it with earphones,or set up an external speaker, especially at home when your not out and about.
The brouser comes up with default Google, but evrything else you would expect to get from the web is easily accesible. ([...])
Battery life is reasonable....around 3-4 hours in my experience,(charge time 3 hours) but it would have more battery drain if you do a lot of downloading stuff!
Apart from the sound and the camera issues this device is very good. So, if you can come to terms with these niggles I recommend it, purely on the grounds that everything else is nicely designed and it works, more or less straight out of the box.
NOTE: I would have given it 5 stars, but 4 is fair! It could have been a perfect5 but for the sound and camera.

I bought this tablet basing my choice on the many excellent reviews. They were right. I've had it for three days now and it has exceeded expectations. To begin with the packaging is very stylish and it would make an excellent gift. Wifi reception is strong and it is incredibly fast. The screen is a joy, so responsive that makes typing very easy. I took it through it's paces...basically downloaded lots of apps including a 3D game. Download took all of a minute or two and the game worked like a charm. I also hooked it up to my laptop and installed my own music and movies. The resolution is fantastic. I tried my headphones and the audio is good too but it sounds better when I tried it with my laptops mini speakers. I streamed Youtube and browsed and the battery lasts at least 3 hours non stop keeping in mind I was setting things up the way I like them. I can't find any faults except it may be a bit heavier than other tablets because of the glass screen but then again a glass screen can't get scratched. It's excellent value for money and hooking it up to my TV was no problem either. MP4 MKV and WMV files look awesome and they were my primary convern.

Overall it does what the makers claim it does and I am delighted with it. I do suggest you get a microsd card because you will need it and insert it before you switch the tablet on for the first time so you won't have any trouble. I also downloaded some ebooks (a first one for me) so basically i think I went through most of the features. The manual is easy to understand but if you already own an android phone it's easy going, if not then you will be converted because this takes it up a couple of notches for the better I must say. Well done Cambridge Sciences! You have a new fan!
