Enhance Your MusicMost computers are brilliant for spreadsheets, but terrible for music. DacMagic XS offers an alternative to your computer’s built-in sound card and has been designed strictly to enhance your music experience, delivering detailed, high-resolution audio. |
Pump up the VolumeDacMagic XS delivers up to 10 times more power than most laptop sound cards. With 105mW of power, it can drive the very best headphones and offer proper depth, detailed sound and deep bass. And you can turn it up loud. |
Completely PortableDacMagic XS is truly lightweight, weighing in at only 100g and perfect for taking just about anywhere. There’s no reason not to enjoy a proper hi-res audio experience, even if you’re working remotely at a coffee shop. |

USB Class 1 and Class 2DacMagic XS is compatible with both Class 1 and Class 2 USB audio. Class 1 is capable of playing high-res files up to 24-bit/96kHz (that’s above CD quality) so you’re guaranteed a great sound either way, but if you have studio master quality files to enjoy, switch to Class 2 for up to 24-bit/192kHz. |
ProcessingWhen running in USB Class 2 mode, DacMagic XS can completely bypass the computers poor audio path, preventing unwanted interference and re-sampling. This guarantees professional quality audio output. |
Plug in and PlayDacMagic XS only has 2 connections: a micro-USB to connect to your computer and an Aux-in for your headphone Jack. It’s also been designed to be compatible with Mac and PC. This minimalism is intentional: we wanted to make upgrading your computers sound as simple as possible. |

It does. Not only that, it's genuinely tiny! Certainly something you could chuck into a laptop bag along with a decent pair of in-ear phones.
Coupled with audirvana pro on a macbook, and a pair of Klipsch X10i's, the sound quality is very good. It's never going to be as good as a desktop setup (e.g. DacMagic Plus and AKG K702's), but it is reasonably close to that quality. Slight loss of sound stage focus, bass a little lacking in punch, but what can you expect from such a tiny package?!
Very pleased with this DAC - plays up to 192Khz files, 24bit, with no difficulties and the headphone amp is very effective (bit too good, actually - watch out for high volume!).
The usb cable seems a tad budget, but you could always replace this if needs be (not sure if you would really notice much difference though). Seems well made (it's an aluminium box, so not much to say!) and looks durable enough.
Overall it is hard to fault it and I much preferred it to the Dragonfly 1.2 which I did not like.
I like the volume control feature and the build quatily is very good. I would prefer to have the option of plugging it directly into the USB port(like the Geek out) as I like to move my laptop about a lot and I found the short USB lead/tail causes it to dangle which makes it awkward to move.
When I first used it with my B&W P5 cans, I thought I have not installed them properly. The thing is that I did not notice the improvement in audio quality that I was expecting, even more, I honestly cannot tell the difference. I would like to know if other users have the same experience. I am impressed by the S2-392, another feature in which it overpasses Apple laptops.
So I went to my work Lenovo Thinkpad T420 and the difference is there and it is big. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers The Last DJ guitar sounded mulled without and with the DacMagic it gets bright and clear. And that is why I give it 4 of 5 stars.
There are not that many products that have ever impressed me so quickly. Sheer high quality in each way I have used it so far.
A bargain that adds a higher function to my ageing other audio kit. Get one now is my advice, do not hesitate.
I'm very glad I did so as I find the DacMagic volume control very useful and its sound enhancement excellent, both in terms of clarity and volume.
with a MacBook Pro 13" and AEG 701 Headphones.
The Mac readily configured the device and the sound
quality was enhanced considerably. This was particularly
noticeable on live performances which captured the
atmosphere of the venue and the verve of musicians.
