Product Description

Cactus Flower is a delightful comedy sparked by crazy, mixed-up situations and a kooky, Academy Award®-winning debut performance from Goldie Hawn (Best Actress in a Supporting Role). Walter Matthau also stars as Julian Winston, an easygoing bachelor dentist whose delicately balanced scheme crumbles under some unexpected circumstances. Winston is stringing along his dizzy blonde mistress, Toni (Hawn), by telling her that he has a wife and children. But when he learns that she has tried to commit suicide over him, he promises to marry her. Toni, refusing to be a home wrecker, insists on first meeting Winston’s wife, so he convinces Stephanie (Ingrid Bergman) - his starched and no-nonsense nurse - to pose as his wife. Winston’s scheme leads to unforeseen twists and surprises for everyone. Winston is stringing along his dizzy blonde mistress, Toni (Hawn), by telling her that he has a wife and children. But when he learns that she has tried to commit suicide over him, he promises

"Cactus Flower" is a quick, witty, clever romantic comedy that stars an extremely young Goldie Hawn as the wide-eyed, slightly naïve, irresistably adorable Toni, the ever funny Walter Matthau as the commitment-phobic but lovable old bachelor dentist Julian, and Bergman as Julian's beautiful but rather uptight/conservative nurse receptionist Stephanie. There are some great supporting characters as well.
I will not go into the plot of the movie as it can be read about elsewhere; I will simply say that if you are a fan of Goldie Hawn, Walter Matthau, Ingrid Bergman or just one of them, and if you enjoy a great late-1960's/early-1970's vibe, then you will love this movie.

Besides the amazing script and cast, it really would worth watching for the wardrobe and haircuts alone which are all extremely "swinging 60's" - ruffles, velvet, mini skirts, the whole deal. I have always liked when movies of an older date take you around in different environments such as stores, museums, clubs, different kinds of homes or workplaces, and you really get a sense of the time period. If you have seen and liked TV shows such as "Columbo" or "The Persuaders", you probably know what I mean - when they go to some super hot spot like the hippest hair salon in town or underground art gallery and you realize what a different world it was back then, or you get to go "Oh, do you remember this and that" if you belong to the slightly older audience. This movie is jam-pakced with the designs of '60s heyday. Record stores, apartment interiors, restaurants and funky bars where Bergman and Hawn hit the dance floor and show off the grooviest moves of the day - it is priceless!
So grab the chance to see Hawn at her most adorable and Bergman as you've never seen her before. It is one of my favorite comedies from the time, it is definitely very rewatchable and it will be sure to get some laughs out of you! You won't regret buying this.

It's just "rotten rotten rotten" what some dentists will do to keep from marrying a ditzy girlfriend. Julian (Walter Matthau) pretends to be married already so his truth loving girlfriend, Toni (Goldie Hawn) won't press him to marry her. When she attempts suicide, he realizes that he wants to marry her. Toni agrees only if she can meet the wife to prove that she is not a house/home wrecker. Julian comes up with a wife (Ingrid Bergman.) Toni can see that Julian's wife still loves him. Throw in the neighbor that only wares a towel, Igor Sullivan, Senor Sanchez (Vito Scotti,) a Mexican missile and a wild party. And that is where the fun begins.

I love this movie. I watch it over and over and over and never get tired of it. Goldie Hawn is adorably cute and Ingrid Bergman once again takes one's breath away not only by her looks but with her superb acting. No need to mention Walter Matthau, and all the other actors. I love everything about this movie

Very funny comedy where all cichés are reversed. Goldy Hawn and Walter Natheu are very very excellent players ans the script is amazing by the way it reverses the traditional standards of life: man versus girl.

I saw this film for 20 years ago, since I cannot forget it. This movie is a comedy, the story is sweet and sad, and all of the conversation is intellectual. When I saw the scene where Ingrid Bergman played the monkey dance, I was really surprised.
Nobody should could not be imagined. Goldie Hawn is very freshness and beautiful and youth is very cute.
This is her debut movie.

I expected never to be critical of a production whose cast included Walter Matthau - in my opinion probably the greatest screen talent there has ever been - or the lovely Ingrid Bergman, yet only minutes in I understood why Cactus Flower is considered a somewhat obscure title. In theatre the story would be considered 'a farce' which is certainly the arena best suited to it because it really is far too light for the big screen. Goldie Hawn received an Oscar for her supporting role which speaks loudly of the thin opposition provided by her competitors that year.

I had heard of this DVD but knew only that it had the great Ingrid Bergman as a star.Amazon delivered it remarkably quickly considering it had to come half way around the world. The DVD played to perfection. I can only say that the outcome of my purchase was to my complete satisfaction. Any DVDs I would like to buy in the future will come from Amazon. I might also say that I have had the same result from them in the past with purchases.
