I have great pleasure in saying that I was really pleased to find this CD as I have had all the Doobie Brothers on tape before now, and buying all these albums with two CDS on each one is very handy, saved me buying the disc's individualy, a great buy for all fans, nice price too.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Doobies return on a pair of fine albums with the classic rocker line up of the band 2 Jun. 2012
By Wayne Klein - Published on Amazon.com

When bands break up and then return they run the risk of not being relevant any longer and having to update or change their style to fit in.

The Doobie Brothers split up at the pinnacle of their success but their sound had changed pretty radically from the time they started. The line up from "Touluse Street" and "The Captain and Me" got together again (with the addition of long time percussionist and former roadie the late Bobby LaKind)for "Cycles". There was enough of the "classic" Doobies sound to attract fans and the album sold well with the single "The Doctor" (co-written and sung by Tom Johnston)and the rest of the album is in much of the same vibe capturing and updating the classic Doobies sound.

The band truly hit their stride again with "Brotherhood" the second CD of this reissue and while it didn't sell as well it was actually a better album with stronger material and performances from the band.

While we don't get any bonus tracks here or outtakes, we get a fine remastering job by Andrew Thompson for BGO as well as a (brief) history of the band by John Tobler (although he relies a bit too much on Wikipedia at the expense of actual articles and new interviews)that effectively summarizes the band's history from the beginning to Johnston's split (he had been replaced by Michael McDonald when Johnston had to temporarily retire due to an ongoing battle with chronic ulcers NOT a heroin addiction as rumored at the time)to Simmons finally leaving the band and McDonald calling it quits with the Doobies including the band reforming at the behest of the late Keith Knudsen for a series of benefit concerts.

This is a fine set of two solid (and in the case of "Brotherhood" exceptionally good) Doobie Brothers albums. It's a pity there wasn't any additional material included here (outtakes or live performances from the time would have been welcome) but the mastering here is quite good and this is a very good set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally remastered!!! 3 Jun. 2016

I've been waiting for a remastered version of Cycles for years, I was lucky to get Brotherhood in the same package. I love both these albums, but I'm especially fond of Cycles. It's the first cd I purchased by the newly reformed Doobies. It's got a lot of great tunes and even though I've always heard the Doobies songs on the radio I had never owned an actual album by them except for greatest hits packages. I would definitely recommend you pick this up!!!

New Doobie music I had missed when released. What a wonderful surprise. Tom and Pat at the top of their profession

Great music from America's Original Rock and Roll Band. The Doobie Brothers "shot the rocket out of the hole!"

Love it. MC-1975
