I did know a number of these tips already, but some came as a surprise and I'll be adding them to my own list. My reservation about the book is that I'm not really sure that we need to make just a few 'minor tweaks' to our diet and lifestyle, in order to slim successfully, as he suggests. Losing weight isn't quite that easy. His criticism of diets is that they demand a complete change in lifestyle and are difficult to follow without sacrificing convenience and enjoyment, so most people can't stick to them for very long. He's absolutely right, and he's right in saying that we must find a way of eating that we can live with in the longer term, one which doesn't demand extreme sacrifice and which we can follow without thinking too much. The danger with devising your own diet, however, I have found, is that it is easy to kid yourself and it is also easy to cut back enough to avoid gaining further weight without effectively losing weight. Also, Robert Shaw is male (unless there's something I don't know!) and men lose weight more easily than women. Personally, I need a bit of accountability. There are fad diets and there are sensible diets and one needs to find a way of eating that is less a diet and more of a lifestyle choice, that one can stick to in the long term. For me, there's one diet that fulfils that criterion and provides me with support and weekly accountability i.e. a weigh-in. That's just me and we all have to find our own path. I like the fact that Robert Shaw has fund his and it has worked for him. Too many of us try short-term solutions and fad diets that only slow our metabolism and are impossible to follow for long. That's the crap he's talking about.
This book is worth reading and thinking about. Good value for a low price!
I've managed to change my food habits with 3 of the tips offered and even they have made a noticable difference.
