Ella's circumstances come through the fact that she fell for the wrong man at the wrong time, but now its all about her doing the best for son, no matter what the fall out means for her, she's totally selfless and sacrificing.
When her best friend gets a new hot neighbour Ella doesn't want to be attracted to him as she is sworn off love, but things are complicated when her friend likes him too. So what will come of this unseeingly triangle?
While I did love the story I wanted more angst and I expected more from the fall out as some of those characters I could have punched. I really like Ella and Coen, but I just felt some loose ends could have been tied better. Overall though I did really enjoy this book and the curveball it through.
This is the first book that I have read by Mariah Dietz but it won't be the last.
The blurb intrigued me and pulled me in but I will admit that I did struggle to get into the story initially but once I did I was hooked. I couldn't put it down.
Curveball wasn't what I was expecting, I thought I was getting a book filled with angst but what I got was less than I was expecting but more than I was expecting at the same time.
It was a sweet romance with no angst but lots of drama and a little twist that you won't see coming. It was filled with such depth and emotion that you would be hard pressed to not feel anything whilst reading this story.
It had such a consistent and smooth writing style that made it hard to put down and characters that you couldn't help but love.
Coen, the firefighting hero was simply irresistible and Ella, although there were times that she grated on me, I found her quite endearing and enjoyed watching her character blossom.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to everyone!!
Coen is a firefighter. Ella is a working single mother. Their lives are extremely different. What could bring them together?! Baseball, of course. Ella's son and Coen share the love of the game.
Ella is scared to share or feel love beyond the safety she has with her son. "When you give your heart away there’s no way to fully get it back. Pieces will be left behind, lies will drill holes, deceit will cause cracks, and the feeling of being unwanted will create a doubt your heart was ever whole."
Can Coen change Ella's feelings? Will he throw a curveball at her life? Does she believe she has a chance at happiness? You will have to read to find out.
Thank you, Mariah Dietz, for Curveball. I truly loved this contemporary romance. I recommend this book to all readers of romance. An absolute must read!
You know those sexy men with big firm shoulders like they are chiselled out of rock? That is Coen, firefighter, lifesaver, pancake eating gorgeousness.
Beautiful, sweet Ella has the mental strength of an ox. She cares and loves her son Hayden fiercely. Sticks and stones may break her bones but she doesn't allow petty nasty gossip and name calling to hurt her. When the going gets tough she moves her furniture.
Curveball has comedy moments with Ella's online dating fails and heart bursting happy moments of love conquering nastiness. Something Mariah got absolutely spot on is how Ella refuses to allow Hayden to be a pawn in her relationship with his dad, Patrick and how Coen has to have Hayden's blessing to be a part of her life.
Oh and I loved the DeLuca family moments too.
Great book, and William Levy is my Coen. He even has baseball pictures. Perfect!

What an incredible book!
Curveball by Mariah Deitz is a standalone romance with so much drama, angst, passion, and emotions. I completely ignored everything and read this book in one sitting! Ms. Deitz weaved us an amazing story line that I could relate to being a mother and felt invested in. The characters are so well developed and they truly felt real to me.
In this story, Ella is a single mother sharing custody of her son, Hayden, and working full time in marketing. She does the best she can, but often feels overwhelmed and anxious especially when Hayden is at his father’s house. Thankfully, her best friend Rachel is there whenever she needs help! The story really gets exciting when Ella is at Rachel’s house and they meet her new neighbor, Coen, and his best friend, Justin.
Absolutely a must read!
