Witold Pilecki was a person who was unique in that he volounteered to break into Auschwitz to see first hand for himself what was taking place there and report to the Polish AK underground. Their intelligence was passed onto the west.

After the war Pilecki was arrested by the Soviet regime occupying Poland. He was placed on trial with trumped up charges. The prosecuting officer responsible for framing Pilecki was Helena Wolinska-Brus. Later along with her husband a communist era economist she would move Oxford, England. There here husband would join the staff of Oxford university.

After the fall of communism the daughter of Pilecki would attempt for 10 years to have her extradited to Poland to face war crime charges with no success.

I bought this brief book after a trip to Auschwitz. It has helped me to understand better how patriots has dedicated their lives to fight for freedom, mainly memories from his two children.
I would recommend it to complement other books about that era.

Didn't really give this a chance as it wasn't what I was expecting. Very much about a right wing pole and his views. Disappointed
