Product Description

For the first time this new documentary film CAN AM THE SPEED ODYSSEY captures one of most revered road racing championships of all time, the 1966-1973 CAN AM Challenge Cup. It was the quintessential adventure in this era of change and discovery, where heroic drivers McLaren, Hulme, Stewart, Andretti, Surtees, Donohue, Gurney, Hall, Follmer, Revson, Oliver, Amon, Scheckter and others from FORMULA ONE and around the world battle in their brutally fast CAN AM Group 7 machines on the daunting road racing circuits across the USA and Canada. Unique to the world, the CAN AM rule book intentionally had few technical restrictions, allowing race car designers the freedom to innovate. It was the COUNTER-CULTURE of motor sport. Here we discover the world s first radical inventions of wings on race cars, sophisticated ground effect aerodynamics, and to this day, the world s most powerful road racing car, the Porsche 917-30. These iconic CAN AM machines, faster than Formula 1, Indy and Le Mans race cars, pushed the limits and sometimes beyond... CAN AM legends and film narrators JIM HALL and SAM POSEY take you inside this brave road racing spectacle. Now all generations can experience this timeless adventure, an odyssey of pure speed, fierce race competition, radical innovations, intrigue and ground shaking sounds. CAN AM THE SPEED ODYSSEY is crafted exclusively from rare archive motion picture color film and audio.

This is an essential DVD for any serious follower of historic motor racing. Not only is it an outstanding archive of rare film footage with awesome soundtracks it was filmed at historic racing circuits some of which no longer exist and others which have now been 'sanitised' in the pursuit of 'driver safety'. It also incorporates fascinating interviews and personal glimpses into the lives of the drivers who tamed these 1000HP machines. So refreshing to have commentary by guys who were at the sharp end and know what they are talking about.

Such a great series and time for our sport, well work a watch as there are some really great elements of footage in there and really puts you in the zone. I was disappointed that the later 72/73 seasons seemed to be less detailed.

Period Can Am footage is rare. This DVD pulls a lot of what's available together to produce a fantastic glimpse of times gone by.

Thoroughly enjoyable; I recommend to any motor racing fan.
