About the Author

VIRGINIA WRIGHT is author and illustrator of the children's books-- Buzzzzzzzz (a nonfiction, educational beekeeping primer for all ages), Crying Bear, The Princess and the Castle, The Prince and the Dragon, Wild Animal Sounds, Timothy the Christmas Mouse, Timothy the Christmas Mouse Coloring Book For Children and The Christmas Secret. Wright says being a preschool teacher for a number of years at a private Christian Preschool and Kindergarten in Ocean Springs, Mississippi was definitely an inspiration for writing children's books, but the true inspiration for "Buzzzzzzzz What Honeybees Do" comes from one of her five grandchildren Abigail, because of her inquisitiveness about honeybees after visiting the bee yard with her grandfather who was a beekeeper. Virginia Wright first became a published author in 1981 when she sold her first writing to a regional magazine in the state of Maine. She also had several of her writings published in an Anthology-- Soundings, by the Poetry Fellowship of Maine, as well as writings in print appeared in the Bangor Daily News. She was quoted as saying, "When I am not spending time with my husband, adapting recipes and cooking, taking nature photos, then I spend my time doing what I enjoy doing most, writing..."

5.0 out of 5 stars HIGHLY-RECOMMEND THIS BOOK 20 April 2016
By Tracy Campbell - Published on Amazon.com

Honeybees are amazing creatures, for they are insects that provide us with the golden sweet food known as honey. By reading this very interesting, easy-to-understand story, you’ll learn the basics about honeybees, as well as where and how they live. Real photographs inside the book get you up close and personal with our greatest pollinator, the honeybee. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bzzzzz...BEE BASICS 2 Jan. 2014
By Barbara Mojica - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This short nonfiction book is targeted for children in the eight to twelve year old bracket, but the book serves as a good basic reference manual for all ages. There are a few editing and formatting issues with the kindle version I downloaded for my KindleHD and the differences in size of font can be distracting, but this book is a great starting point for anyone interested in learning about honeybees. It explores the process of maturation, types of hives, who does the stinging, the kinds of honey, what is pollen and the process of pollination, and the jobs of members of the bee colony. Readers are introduced to the types of plants and flowers that attract honeybees and the reasons why bee colonies are collapsing and disappearing in the United States. Illustrations are helpful though some of them are a bit too small to see detail. All in all, the book belongs on the reference shelves of classroom science libraries and a must read for children who are budding scientists or animal lovers.

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked it but... 19 Dec. 2012

This is a great book, and I don't mean to put it down. My problem with this title was the formatting. For one reason or another, on my Kindle Fire the text started and ended in weird places and the size of the text went through some dramatic changes as well. I don't know if this is something that happened when the book downloaded or if it just a Kindle Fire thing. Either way, beyond that, I found this to be a well written and informative book that will teach your kids a lot about the chosen subject. I thought the pictures looked great and was glad the author included closeups for the child to inspect. Even with the formatting issues, the book was fun for my kids and I was grateful that they learned a lot by the end of the book. I think a lot of the time bees are mistaken as villains and I was glad my kids had the opportunity to see how useful they really are. Really nice book for kids.

Well I have to admit I actually learned something that I had no idea about. I never knew that male honeybees do not sting. This book has a lot of information on it about honeybees! I would recommend it to anyone who would like to learn about how they live, make honey and all other information.
