I liked this short story about Claire, the null witch and Dory's room mate who encounters the fey and realises some truths about her own ancestry. I read it as part of the anthology On the Prowl not as a standalone but I've re-entered it here so it shows up on 'my books' as I tend to think of it as Claire's story rather than the Dory prequel.

This is the story of how Claire and Heidar, from the Doria Basarab series by Karen Chance in Death's Mistress and Midnight's Daughter we know what happens after they meet, because Dory spends most of the second book looking for the kidnapped Claire. For readers of the Cassandra Palmer series by Karen Chance, Dory is Mirceas daughter. I would always highly recommend Karen Chance and her books, they are always a great read.Buying Trouble: A Companion Novella to Midnight's Daughter

To say I'm a huge fan of Karen Chance would be an understatement! I only found out today this was available on its own as opposed to part of a collection of other unrelated novellas and was eager to skip an afternoon of uni work to get reading.

Like the rest of Karen's work it grips you straight away in a fast paced action packed storyline that leaves you impatiently waiting for more. I'm really impressed with how she develops the characters particularly over a short space of time and fills in a lot of back story to Midnight's Daughter. I also love the attention to detail in all these books it makes it all seem so real.

I could gush for a lot longer like the self confessed fan girl I am or I could just insist you read this and both series. Especially if your an urban fantasy fan.
