Review

Cassidy has a good track record for thrillers (Daily Mail)

As in all good YA books, Cassidy fills her story with teenage awkwardness and simmering emotions . . . Any young adult fan reading this will certainly not feel they have spent any dead time with this author (Susan May Suspense Magazine on Killing Rachel)

Book Description

A stylish thriller perfect for aspiring teen readers of crime. The Murder Notebooks have to be read - even if it's fatal . . .

I absolutely adore the Murder Notebooks series! Butterfly Grave by Anne Cassidy is the third book in this series and just as we were able to explore more about Rose and her past in the previous book, in Butterfly Grave not only do we get some very crucial information regarding Rose's mum and Joshua's dad and the things they have been involved in, but we also learn a bit more about Joshua and Skeggsie's life prior to the start of the series. I found it all very interesting and I thought Butterfly Grave, while slightly slower in pace, was a fab addition to the series. I am now eagerly anticipating the fourth and final book, Dead and Buried, which is being published in March.

Butterfly Grave begins just before Christmas and Joshua has invited Rose to come spend the holidays up in Newcastle with him and Skeggsie following Joshua's uncle's fall from a cliff. It is thought that Joshua's uncle may have fallen whilst walking his dog but when Joshua and Rose start poking around, it is found that things are much complicated than they first appear and that Joshua's uncle may be more involved with things. I think one of things I love the best about this series is how well written the mystery is. I can never guess as I'm going along what will happen next or who will be responsible for all that is going wrong around these three teenagers.

But of course, being surrounded by murder and dead bodies has taken its toll on Joshua in this book. He's constantly on edge with worry and paranoia, obsessively checking the license plates of those he believes to be following him and making sure that Rose is vigilant as well.

This is the third instalment in the Murder Notebook series and the whole premise is starting to wear a tad thin. I find myself not caring if Rose's mum and Joshua's dad are ever found, dead or alive. At the moment I don't think I'll buy the 4th & final book, because I really don't care. I have read many of Anne Cassidy's previous novels, Looking for JJ, Tough Love, Love Letters, Just Jealous and Forget Me Not, as well as the East End Murder series, and all have captured my attention from page one until the end.

Not so the Murder notebook series, neither Rose or Joshua are particularly likeable or realistic characters and as I said previously, I don't care whether they find their mysterious parents or not.

Definitely not one of her best.

When you think the mystery can't get any more gripping Anne delivers another. Fantastic. Very moving and if you've followed rose and Joshua`s story from the start you will be saddened at times. I can not wait to read the next and final book of the series.

Amazing book, I chose it because I'd read the two books before it and lived them too. This is by far the best one yet, can't wait to read the next book! I recommend this book to people who like reading about crime/ murder mystery books.

This was a frustrating read due to the constant angst of Josh who spends most of the book snapping at Rose while she pines after him like a sad puppy. This book was a lot sadder then the other books in the series.
