The Collins nature guides are all classics in their field and this one is no exception.

Clear, concise and easy to use it is the ideal guide.

I do a lot of nature photography and have a range of Collins guides to help with Latin names for captions etc.

Well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the top books for European butterflies 12 Jan. 2016

This is an excellent book on the butterflies of Europe. I find another book slightly more helpful (Butterflies of Europe by Tristan Lafranchis) because it has keys to all the species which greatly helps me work through to identify a particular specimen (I use both books to identify a group of specimens that were gifted to me), but this Collins guide is excellent in its own right. It has color drawings instead of photos, but the drawings are incredibly detailed and life-like and are just as helpful, if not more so, than many photos. So much information is packed into the species descriptions that some of the words are abbreviated, which can be slightly annoying but there is a table at the beginning of the book with the abbreviation definitions.
