I think if you are new to the subject then this will be a great read!!!
Example: Right time, right place A manufacturing company was struggling to deliver their orders on time. Despite losing a handful of key staff the amount of work loaded into the business was higher than it had ever been. They were about to go into a holiday season too! Subcontracting of work out of the business was also at a new all time high and so far they had paid lip service to their Master Production Scheduling tools (MPS). I suggested that they started to be more controlled about how they allocated their capacity when work came into the business through a contract review meeting. “It will take hours” I was told. My response was that this would be one of the best uses of their time and that after a few days of getting used to the meeting that it would only take minutes. The first day it took nearly three hours and not much quicker over the next three or four days. Thankfully they got the hang of it, realised its importance and got the meeting down to around ten minutes. Just by putting the right work in the right slots their on-time delivery performance shot up, and their lead times came down as well as their capacity actually increasing (due to a reduction in fire fighting / chasing late orders). Overtime also reduced and subcontracting needs diminished too, all with a greater overall output each and every month. All of this was a result from ‘just’ putting one daily meeting in place.
