After what seemed an eternity, Network is doing a great job in releasing these series' every couple of months. The sad thing is that we only have one more classic season left(September release)before Arthur and Stan left. This is a great DVD and for the purists, the LWT logo is present on the shows along with the correct pauses on the breaks, I even managed to get a countdown clock at the beginning of one episode, not been able to repeat it though-must be an easter egg or something. The picture quality is passable, but on the first episode, there is an annoying video issue, hence one star off.

Not the best or funniest season of this great comedy series, but certainly the longest with a massive fifteen episodes! Two of them penned by Stephen Lewis (the Inspector) and Bob Grant (the Conductor) and these turn out to be among the funniest. Madeleine Mills makes another appearance as a different character, and this set includes another Christmas 'special'. This season also retains the original Ad. Bumpers that some of the previous sets are missing.

Good stuff.

Series five of "On the buses" was originally transmitted in 1971 at the end of the year. Series four had been partly in black and white because of a strike but this series was in colour.
This is now a classic British comedy and this is one of the better series. There are fourteen episodes including a Christmas edition at the end. This was very long for a comedy series back in the 1970s and still is a long run of episodes even today.

There are some good episodes with some good farcical situations. For example
Stan gets mixed up with babies as a nursery is set up at the depot in episode one. In another episode he has to be best man at the wedding of the inspector`s neice. Other episodes see everyone exposed to the flu, a nurse for the depot comes to live at the Butlers, Stan does his back in and has to wear a surgical corset, The butlers get a new colour TV, Jack becomes an inspector, Arthur gets a wig to impress a new clippie on the bus and there is Boxing Day problems for Arthur.
These are just some of the funny situations the regular characters get into.

One thing about this series that is of note is that actors Bob Grant (Jack) and Stephen Lewis (Blakey) wrote two of the episodes. The rest of the episodes are written by Ronald Wolfe and Ronald Chesney.
Generally I don't think this series is as good as either series three or four but it is still worth watching and has plenty of entertainment.

Stan Butler is a driver for a London bus company. He works with conductor Jack, his mate. They work the number 11 bus to the cemetery gates. Stan and Jack are always trying to dodge their Inspector Blake (Blakey) who is always trying to catch them up to no good.
Stan lives with his widowed mother, and a dowdy sister Olive and her husband Arthur.

I remember with so much love this comedy and comedy it truly was. I grew up watching Stan,Jack, and Blakey and not forgetting stan's family.... his widowed mum and his sister olive and her husband arthur. The comedy that was in those days was FANTASTIC.
Some of the comedies nowadays is very good. But! on the buses and the films on the buses, mutiny on the buses and holiday on the buses was pure gems.
i have started to collect the 7 series of stan and co. i just need series five and series seven and then i'm happy. THANK YOU Stan, jack and co for FANTASTIC laughs and memories. THANK YOU AMAZON for having the series and the 3 films.

In its 5th season and On the Buses was going from strength to strength, this series over 2 discs, includes some great episodes including "the Nursery" "The Busmans Ball" "New Telly" and my personal favourite "Boxing Day social", the loveable rogues Stan & Jack still make Blakeys life hell, still pull all the "birds" and get up to loads of mischief in this series.

And for those that like a bit of nostalgia, when you press play on your episode, and the LWT idents starts, just slowly rewind to find a little extra, i won't spoil the suprise, but, it's something i loved.

I bought this for my grandson who watched a bit of On The Buses with his grandfather and he loved it. The dvd's I have purchased for him are now continually being played at home - driving his mother mad - but keeping him entertained. Pretty good at nearly 12 years of age and certainly keeping him out of trouble.
