After Demolition simulater I wasn`t really expecting much, but I was in one of my weird moods when I wanted to try a sim of something I see in realty, rather than shooting things or playing fantasy.

So Bus Simulator 2 got picked. I did do a little research in the hope of avoiding total turkeys.

Bus Simulator might sound like the most boring thing since sliced bread, but in practise it`s actually more interesting and enjoyable than it should be.

The game starts you off with a pleasant title screen of a bus and some strangely rocky music for the theme. However, the first good sign was the array of options at your disposal. If there`s one thing I`ve learnt, a good sign to a good game is if it presents you with plenty of options. There are loads of advanced control and graphic settings to get into. You can make a profile name which becomes your bus company.

In game you simply buy a bus and some routes and get started, as you progress you buy more routes and more buses. However, the game plays in a much more hands-on way then sitting back and just managing which actually works quite well. Anyway, I bought a bus and route and got started.

Graphics are good, but not next gen. The buses look great inside and out, but everything else is somewhat generic, though it still looks reasonable. I popped into 1st person view. Controls were actually quite easy to start. You can use the keyboard cursor keys to get moving or attach a controller. I suspect a controller will make it easier, but I had no trouble with the cursor keys at all. The trick is simply don`t hold the button down, just touch for a second and let go, repeat. Easy.

There`s also a spacebar access to controls which works very well and actually helps you if you can`t remeber a key.

Bought as a means of entertainment to rival my other driving simulator (Euro-Truck 2), I relied on the comments of an ex-bus driver, who said it was very realistic! In actual fact, the game offers various models of buses to buy and run, some are very similar to each other. There are a huge range of buttons to operate all the systems. The routes offer a variety of set runs, some rural going into city centres, others doing a city centre only scene. Now the problems! Firstly, most of the details are in german. The route announcer speaks in something that might be german, but, backwards! The road markings are weird. Especially junctions. The other road traffic consist of suicidal maniacs undertaking at the worst of times in cars or light trucks (7.5ton) driving with wrong indication on. Traffic lights sometimes fine you when you are crossing on green, or do nothing when you cross on red. When crossing into or out of the city limits, you have to endure a loading (painfully slow) of new area maps. If you built up a good head of steam, you will find yourself changing zones at a dead stop. Or, you might find you have run over a pedestrian that suddenly appears in the middle of the road! The game runs either ok, or slow, with the consequence of leaving the road and ending up in a ditch or tree. The game often crashes, leaving you no choice other than to abandon the game or re-start. I wish it ran smoothly as the Euro-Truck simulator, then it would score higher with me, but it disappoints.

The cover of the game is highly misleading as it would suggest that buses can be selected with local livery rather than the very basic schemes on offer.

As a bus enthusiast, I do find the game enjoyable. In order to progress in the game you have to run a successful service, avoiding traffic violations (speeding, collisions, jumping red lights). As a result any collision of any kind is logged as the fault of the game player, and here are where the problems begin. The game is rather extreme in trying to represent real life driving scenarios. Every other road user is overly aggressive, looking to cut inside/outside with reckless abandon. This is where some of the quirky aspects of the game come to the fore.

One of the many random events that have occurred was when a car drove into the back of my bus, went flying over and continued to speed off down the road. Of course, the game registered this as the bus drivers traffic violation, resulting in the failure of the route! I'll be honest, I do find these "events" very amusing, but how is one to progress in the game when beset by such freakish and random occurrences that can only be simply put down to poor software engineering?

As one of the cheaper entry categories of the vehicle simulator games, it might be worth a purchase, as long as you have a good sense of humour. I guess you get what you pay for.

I bought the game thinking it would be amazing. But i was very dissapointed when i had to wait a long time for the game to load. Then when i was finally on the game it said 'City area loading'. This then went on and on and on and on until i finally pressed the start key on my computer to which the game reacted in a weird way and the bus started flying through the air crashing into invisible things. I then turned off my computer and started the game again it loaded fine and i was able to drive. The steering on this game is impossible. Whenever you press the left or write curser key it moves the bus so much more than you want it too making you crash into things. The other downside is you cant use a steering wheel. Overall i think the game is not worth buying and i would recomend you buying 'Bus Driver' instead. Bus Driver (PC CD) Hope this was helpfull :)
