A Burracombe Easter written by Lilian Harry was a brilliant read though as stated on the description it is a short story especially written for Easter. One of the old characters Miss Frances Kemp the school children's favourite teacher, who has appeared in Lilian Harry's books which are based around Burracombe, and though this is a short read I loved how we got to know this much loved character a little bit better and for me I could understand her more as a character within the other wonderful books by this very talented author. I love Lilian Harry as an author as not only can she write a brilliant story but one which opens up the countryside so vividly I was able to imagine the places within her very addictive books.
I thoroughly enjoyed this short read as the author showed the horrors of the First World War at home and abroad, for those who served overseas and especially for those who stayed at home waiting on their loved ones. I would love if she would write another book based on the family of Ralph and Francis, plus of course their many friends and let us readers see more of Francis Kemp or as she is known to her friends as Fanny or Franny to her darling Ralph. Within the earlier books Miss Kemp was seen as a strict school mistress but within this short book we seen a girl who held strong beliefs and stood by those she cared for but also one who enjoyed being with her friends and of course Ralph.

Lilian Harry's books are always a good read & this one is just that. I can't wait for the new Burracombe novel. When I read them it's like joining a family, & look forward to reading the books as the are published.

I have read many short stories written by my favourite authors, and usually find that they disappoint, that the writers are not able to keep the momentum going in the short-story format. However, this book did not disappoint me. Lilian Harry used it as a "spin-off" to embellish another character, the head teacher of the school who we did not know a lot about, and to tell her story. It also tied in very nicely with the commemoration of the 100 year anniversary of WWI.

I found this is written in that nice free flowing manner which I like and enjoy. There was no compulsion to speed read, and every intention to read and remember. It talks of young love set against a background filled with the horrors of war, and explains how the two merge. If you fancy giving this a go don't hesitate. I really think you'll enjoy

A little disappointed with this. I have read and enjoyed all the Burracombe books. Although this book fleetingly referred to the usual characters they never actually appeared in the book. I suppose the reason for that is that this was simply a short story and there wasn't time to involve the usual characters.

Loved this little booklet. Have read all the Burracombe books so far. So nostalgic and even though I was born during, not before, the second world war, I found this little book drew me right in immediately and brought back memories of those immediate post-war days.

This brings into the character of Miss Kemp a new Insight. Very short story would have liked this to be much longer but still enjoyed it. Looking forward to the new Burracombe novel in August.
