Product description

Review

Children have an unnerving knack of taking their parents and carers by surprise. Emma’s book places safety in the context of child development, empowering parents to anticipate risk and avoid serious accidents in childhood. She shows how prompt first aid can help minimise the impact of an accident, sharing her practical knowledge and skills. And she explains how to assess a situation, so we have the confidence to apply first aid skills in an emergency.

Katrina Phillips, Chief Executive, Child Accident Prevention Trust

Being a parent is scary and we have a natural tendency to over-protect our children. Rather than wrapping the children in cotton wool, arm yourself with Emma’s great book, take sensible precautions and then let your children enjoy their childhood. Being armed with the knowledge and skills to deal with accidents is much more practical than trying to foresee and prevent every mishap.

Dr Amanda Gummer - The Good Toy Guide, Good App Guide and Fundamentally Children

'Children are curious and it’s only natural that they will have minor accidents as they explore. ‘Burns, Falls and Emergency Calls’ is a super informative, but easy to read book, for families, parents, grandparents, childminders and carers, to help everyone become aware of potential risks. It teaches the skills needed to help in an emergency without overwhelming the reader, and of course, that could ultimately save lives. This great book empowers and gives confidence to everyone who reads it and I highly recommend that you go out and grab yourself a copy and keep it handy.’

Sue Atkins ITV ‘This Morning’ Parenting Expert & Author of ‘Parenting Made Easy – How To Raise Happy Children’

Burns, Falls and Emergency Calls is a pleasure to read and written using Emma’s decades of experience in nursing and first aid. Parents, carers and anyone working with children and young people will appreciate the way that Emma has focused on child development accidents and injuries, as well as outlining the norms of developmental expectations for different age groups. This unique and informative book is a must.

Laura Henry - Award winning international Early Years specialist.

After a recent scare with one of our grandchildren, we decided we needed to get clued up. I attended a first aid course, and started to 'evangelical' about telling people they need to know what to do in an emergency. This book provides an invaluable knowledge source, setting out both what to do in an emergency as well as tips on how to avoid them! This is no dull theory book either. It's packed with practical advice... Would you have thought about getting a child with breathing difficulty to sit in a chair facing the of the back so as to help them sit up straight? Me neither! Our drama was a case of severe Febrile convulsions and fit. This exact situation is covered in this book.

It's worth noting that this book is clearly written. well laid out and illustrated and available in both digital and paper format. We have got both versions! If you have any contact or responsibility for children, you would be well advised to get this book or something very much like it.

Being a dad of two young children myself, I feel this book is extremely invaluable to help prevent and deal unfortunate accidents at home and out. The book is a very pleasurable read, accessible to lay folks and very informative. It gives me peace of mind to have it as a reference guide and I will be using it in the future to refresh my mind on the pointers.

This is the 2nd copy I have - I gave the first to a neighbour as, over coffee, she scanned my copy with great interest. It's excellent - well written, clear and practical. Definitely a Guide to read regularly so, should we have an emergency, I react calmly. .
