burnout paradise: could be possibly one of the best racing games on the xbox with beautiful graphics and intense fast paced game play leads to a much more exciting experience compared to the likes of forza or pgr games the online also has so much content with online challenges and infinite race paths to play against other live users plus with so much dlc for the game such as the legendary cars pack (which includes knight rider, dukes of hazzard, the daytona from back to the future and the ghostbusters van) and a whole new island coming in the very new future burnout paradise is a must buy in every way.

Burnout Paradise has to be one of the most daring and interesting racing games of recent years, putting the player into the environs of Paradise City and its suburbs. Standard race tracks are replaced by a start point and a finish line, the player encouraged to learn the layout of the city to give them an edge. Every intersection at the game holds its own event, from standard races to Tony Hawk-style stunt runs, Marked Man in which you must get to a certain point on the map without being taken down, and Road Rage where the objective is to cause mass carnage across the city and take down as many opponents as possible.

Multiplayer adds some new twists as well. In addition to all the single-player modes being available racers can cooperate to complete a series of over 250 challenges which take you all over the map and may point out landmarks easy to miss when you're racing around at top speed.

Criterion has been great at supporting the game after release with free downloadable content, such as adding bikes, a day-night cycle, weather effects and additional mutliplayer modes. These are all now included on the disc with Ultimate Box, as well as the brand-new Party Pack, which adds a much-needed offline "pass the controller" mode. Unlike the rest of the extra content, on Xbox Live the Party Pack costs 800 MS points, so if you haven't already picked up the game, the Ultimate Box will actually save you a bit of money. With more content on the horizon for 2009, now is a great time to get into Burnout Paradise.

Burnout Paradise is the perfect example of how to make and support a game. Criterion, the developers, knew that after Burnout Revenge, they needed to shake up the formula: Burnout was transferred to an open world. I, along with many others, was deeply concerned. Could the frenetic excitement of previous games be sustained when you could go where you wanted to?

Needless to say, my fears were assuaged. Comprehensively. Paradise refreshes the Burnout formula, and makes it better than ever. The open world does the opposite of detract from the action - there is nothing more thrilling than saving a seemingly hopeless race after an impromptu shortcut through alleys and over massive jumps. Throw in tons of different modes, a vast array of cars, and a slick multiplayer mode, and Paradise is an improvement on Revenge.

But praise should also be given to Criterion's support for the game after it's release. It has become common practice now to charge obscene amounts for DLC: Street Fighter IV charged for costumes that were just duplicates with different colours. Resident Evil 5 asked you to pay for multiplayer after coughing up for the full price of the game without it.

Criterion, on the other hand, hit the sweet spot. The DLC added has added comprehensively to the experience, with motorbikes, a day-and-night system and a new Party mode for local play; all of this is available on the Ultimate Box (although the first two were free anyway!). Loads of awesome cars are also available for purchase, but these aren't just half-baked reskins: you have the Back to the Future DeLorean, the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 and many more. An expansion island called Big Surf Island also offers extra life.

An incredible package.

If, like me you are emerging from an overdose of online bullet-festivals looking for some uncomplicated fun then I cannot recommend this enough. The graphics are slightly old-school reflecting the games heritage BUT they move at a totally BLISTERING pace. Crashing, racing , stunts are still all here, but ultimately for me RoadRages (where you have to stuff your opponents into walls, buildings, off cliffs, into other traffic)are worth the price alone. Stupid, Fast, Cathartic Fun. Have it!
If you are somewhat underwhelmed by all the time-devouring fps/rpgs coming out on xbox and are looking for simple FUN and want change from 15squid you cannot go wrong. I haven't tried online but then I'm enjoying some off-line downtime.
NB if you are lacking HD space or if you have a download limit (like me and everyone else in Australia) remember the extras on this are a good 1.3GB.

In a word...Fun... Like it used to be...

I'm not going to waste time raving about the gameplay since there's already many reviews for the basic game. Suffice to say that its one of the best driving games i've played in a long time. This package is perfect for me, living at uni and not having access to xbox live to be able to download all these add ons. My only complaint is that there is still no split screen local multiplayer modes which would have topped off this collection.
