I've heard Pam speak on burnout and was very keen to read this book. It does not disappoint and is like listening to Pam in the flesh in front of you - full of sound, no punches pulled sage advice, with real-life comments from those who failed to manage burn-out to bring a sense of reality that you really must heed these words of wisdom - NOW!
Pam has the right questions to ask yourself, ensures you understand what your own "overdrive is doing to you" and how it can't last forever - you certainly aren't going to last forever - especially the way you are going right now.
Great tips and strategies and sometimes unnerving insight into recognising toxic stuff in your life.
My favourite thought is that something might kill us emotionally to stop doing it - but actually it will literally kill us if we keep saying yes.
Say yes to Pam's advice, look her up, access her free resources or book a session with her 1:1 or for your team.
Take a moment to stop, look at yourself and others and ensure you're effective and having fun for longer.
Well done Pam, look forward to reading your next book.
A cold cup of coffee, a missed lunch, a cancelled catch-up with a good friend, an abandoned hobby… what have these things got in common, and even more importantly, do they ring a bell? The opening gambit ,every executive I know heading in this direction is heading for the worst case exit strategy, burnout, unless they do something about it. This handy and concisely written book gives you the key answers to get back on the path to not just save your career, but to put you back in the game and get you ahead. Essential reading for anyone in a professional environment with a lack of time.
A good pithy straightforward read - plenty of great advice about how to avoid burn out. A book to dip into on a regular basis if you are beginning to feel the strain - to zap burn out before it has a chance to affect your health and well being. There are some insightful cases histories quoted (including the author herself) and whether you are an employer, employee, self employed or simply someone who takes too much on, this is a reminder to make those changes now. Timetable things in for you and you alone. Not only are you worth it, but all areas of your life will improve. Highly recommended.
This book was for me a wake up call, an eye opener and a massive hug all in one. In short, witty chunks, Pamela is both kind and firm, gentle and strong - her massage is clear: YOUR HEALTH MATTERS, so why do so many of us put it to the bottom of our list - long term? With nuggets galore, her logic and knowledge is hard to ignore, in some ways changes I knew needed to happen ages ago have started to grind into motion now I've read this book. Her lovely cheerful expressions throughout have also helped me reframe signs I see in loved ones, and helped my irritation turn to empathy. Highly highly recommend!
A must read, especially if you are too busy to read it! Most people ignore the fact they they may be heading for burnout and what this book highlights are all the signs that can potentially lead you exactly down that path if you choose not to act. The book provides lots of solutions, however knowledge alone is not enough, you have to take action. As Pam says "In achieving well-being, the magic is in the little every day good things you do for your mind and, body and soul". As I would say "make self care non - negotiable".
Loved the book - none of it is rocket science .....but we all need reminding of those little red flags and what to do when we see them flutter! Easy to read, great tips and gentle reminders of how to care for yourself
Well written, informative, helpful and easy to read - it's like having a chat with your (sensible) friend. I can recognise several potential problems brewing in my own life and now I have the tools to head them off. This is a book I shall keep handy while I include some of the advice into my daily planning.
I wish I'd read this book before my brain aneurysm All the signs were there I just didn't know it This is a book everyone should read and is a must for busy executives who need to know what to look out for so you don't suffer like I did
Loved this book. Easy to read and relateable real life examples. Enjoyed the style this was written in and love the way it's packed full of tips. I imagine I will be using this as a day to day handbook when managing my health and my QTFM! Looking forward to reading the next book
