However, once I found myself balancing toys on an upturned tissue box so my son could reach them when sat in his bumbo I decided to bite the bullet and spend the tenner. And I am so glad I did!
This tray is brilliant and no bother at all to attach with your baby sitting in the chair. You just slot it on the pommel and then tilt the whole seat ever so slightly to clip it underneath and hey presto happy baby can reach his toys and happy mummy doesn't have to sit holding them anymore!!!
Step 1: Insert baby first as per the instructions
Step 2: Slip the top lip of the tray over the sticky up bit of your Bumbo between baby's legs. Try to avoid crushing your baby's fingers, which, being little and a bit wriggly, have sneaked in underneath the rim of the tray. (Can you tell I got this bit wrong first time!)
Step 3: Push the bottom lip over the bottom edge of the Bumbo to make sure the tray stays put. Try to do this without tipping up the Bumbo (pretty hard) or your baby will fall out backwards. Alternatively, put the Bumbo on the kitchen table and pull it towards you so the Bumbo is halfway over the edge balancing on one hip, and then push the lip over.
Step 4: Breathe a sigh of relief that you've avoided a trip to A&E.
So...whilst I think it's a great concept, surely they must have come up against these problems when testing it? So sorry as I love the Bumbo but the tray needs a rethink....
Yes it is a little tricky to put it on, once child is seated. There are 2 easy ways to do it. Once baby seated, fit the top part, with your ''nail'' get under the base of the seat, lift it few mm, and then just put the foam edging above the rim of the plastic tray.
Or, once the top is fitted, grab the middle foam part of the seat (what has child in between the legs), lift it, and then fit the foam edging above the plastic rim of the tray.
SOOOOOO EASY :-)
I bought mine for the same price in Asda, as I wanted to touch it and see it with my own eyes. I am very happy I bought it
The only negative thing is, that it is not the strongest plastic material. So maybe, if you drop it off the table on tile floor, I can imagine, it will shatter.
And as for the safety of the seat?
On Youtube are plenty videos saying, it is not safe, baby fell from seat, broken hand, fractured skull etc.
You need to realise this: it is foam seat, meaning not very heavy or sturdy. Height is about a half of a baby seated. Meaning, once baby leans forward, it will very likely fall out of it. I mean lean, like almost touching the floor with it's forehead. And that somebody puts the seat on the table and leaves the room leaving the baby on it's own in it on the table? What a ******* parent.
You need to supervise the baby, and leave it always on the floor, the seat.
I love the product.
I feed my 9mth baby, leaving few things on that tray, while she plays I will feed her. Since the tray on the proper high feeding chair is too high, this is much much better.
I recommend it 100%
If you have a Bumbo and no Play Tray yet, get the Play Tray! (Shame they didn't do it sooner.) It's really handy. I set my daughter up with her favourite board book or a few toys and she's amused for... well, a little while and when weaning comes around things will be so much simpler than they were 3 years ago.
A must buy for Bumbo owners!
Apart from that, I would still say it's a must have for anyone with a bumbo chair in the household :-)

Keeps falling apart
I don't know why the old tray design was changed as this one is awful
The tray is a fantastic idea for an accompaniment to the bumbo. It slots on easily and firmly over the bumbo and would be very difficult - if not impossible - for a baby to move. Read morePublished 2 months ago by Rowan Tree
