If you are a student in the construction industry, this book is excellent. Simple to understand, and full of useful tips - for instance, the top 100 defects to look for when surveying a building. I used this book constantly, and anyone who buys it will wonder how they managed without it.

What a fantastic book. As an assistant building surveyor, couldnt be happier. CLear, precise, and extremely informative. If your a student then definitely get this, or even a building professional, I am sure you could still learn alot from this book. Perfect

Poor, do not get.
Either the book is crap or the index is.

1. no chapter on cracking in buildings
2. no clear list of what is is the various reports (eg. home buyers, building report)
3. talks a lot around the subject but no details

conclusion

If you are learning or studying building surveying do not get as a primary text book. If you have an interest with no academic aim and would like a nice read (but not facts) get

Building Surveys was updated and reprinted in September 2007 the first printing of the 6th Edition having sold out in one year. It is now well established as the leading text book on this important subject, essential reading for students and practitioners of surveying but also enthusiatically received by members of the general public involved in buying and selling property.
