Over the past year I've been doing a lot of meditation and hypnosis. I was aware that meditation is the main focus on Buddhism, but I didn't know there was so much more that goes into meditation. Buddhism has a lot of great teachings. it really does focus on bringing peace and happiness to your life. This beginner's guide is definitely worth reading because they are so much that you can learn to apply in your daily life right away. Although, I don't consider myself a Buddhist. I do practice a lot of the teachings. this book is also for people from other religions not just Buddhism.

People have different opinions about Buddhism. Some say it is a religion, some say it is not. Some people would consider it more of a Psychology than a religion. No matter what each person says about it, what's important is its purpose.

It was clearly stated in this book What Buddhism is and what Buddhism is not and I find that very helpful most particularly for people who are looking into an option of truly exploring it. The teachings of Buddhism about bliss, kindness, compassion and way of life are very very enlightening.

This book is well written and informative. I would recommend it to everyone. This book is a very good guide for you to start experiencing real happiness and appreciation of the present moment. Great book!

I have recently started attending a local Buddhist meditation class and have found it enlightening (excuse the pun) and I wanted to read more. Some of the books I tried were really complicated but this was easy to understand and the concepts easy to follow. I would recommend it as a starting point to anyone who wants to make a change and be more mindful in general.

A very useful and explanatory view for beginners interested in Buddhism. I have read other books by Ian Tuhovsky and enjoyed this one just as much. He writes in a way that is easy to understand and the content of the book was very interesting. Highly recommend this book and others by the same after including beginners guide to Zen. My next choice in this subject will be beginners guide to meditation.

I purchased this book as it was on my Mindfulness Diploma reading list. It is an accessible read that introduces all of the key aspects of Buddhist thinking, applying them to modern day life. Although I am a fundamentally positive and mindful person, I can honestly say that this book has had a profoundly positive effect on my life, and for that, I cannot thank Ian Tuhovsky enough. I would recommend this to anyone seeking a new approach to the world around them, and their interaction with it.

Over the last couple of years I’ve been immersing myself more and more into the teachings of the Buddha and I think this was a very solid introduction to Buddhism. It discussed in plain language what Buddhism is (and is not), why someone would want to incorporate Buddha’s teachings into his or her life, the true essence, three main branches and five basic principles of Buddhism, as well as some invaluable information on karma, rebirth and reincarnation. Moreover, the art of meditation, and where and how to start, as well as the multitude of benefits of practicing Buddhism. Another inclusion that I really appreciated was the list of resources that was also included. All in all, this is a wonderful collection of writings that should be on every aspiring Buddhist’s bookshelf.

What a brilliant book! I have wanted to learn about Buddhism for a while but had no idea where to start!
I've brought other books but have found them difficult to understand as I knew next to nothing and was not aware of Buddhist terminology etc.
This book was a brilliant read! Everything explained clearly, in an easy to understand format. I really enjoyed reading it and feel it has given me many great ideas on how to grow and improve.
Will definitely be checking out some of the authors other work!
