About the Author

Jack Kornfield, PhD, is one of the best known, most respected meditation teachers in the world. A psychologist and founder of two of the largest Buddhist Centers and communities in America, he is one of the key teachers who introduced mindfulness to the West. His books are classics, selling well over a million copies, translated into twenty-one languages. Jack has taught at major universities and medical schools including Harvard, Stanford, UCLA, and Berkeley, teaches weekly classes to 400 at Spirit Rock, and to large crowds nationwide at retreats, conferences, and events.

Charlotte Joko Beck was an American Zen teacher, founder of the Ordinary Mind Zen School, and author of Everyday Zen: Love and Work and Nothing Special: Living Zen. She is remembered for teaching her students to work with the emotions of everyday life, rather than attempting to escape them, and produced many Dharma heirs who are practicing psychologists and psychiatrists. She passed away in 2011, at the age of 94.

Sylvia Boorstein is cofounding teacher at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, California, and a senior teacher at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts. She lectures nationally on Buddhism and mindfulness, and teaches Vipassana and Metta meditation.

Tara Brach has been practicing and teaching meditation since 1975, as well as leading Buddhist meditation retreats at centers throughout North America. She is a clinical psychologist, the founder of the Insight Meditation Community of Washington (IMCW), and the author of "Radical Acceptance (2003)" and "True Refuge (2013)". --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

This really is a most beautiful book. I love it; when it's finished I begin again and read from from time to time. The passages are collected from many of the big names, but every one is reassuring and lined with dharma. They are short passages- one before bed or one in the morning or for any time you have 5 mins. I'm sure it is one of those books that if you open randomly and read, you'll find the answer to something that is troubling you in the present. I always feel better after I've read from this.

I already had this book on Kindle, and have now ordered the paper version in case the Kindle should die on me one day, as I wouldn't want to lose it. I use it as my morning and evening reader, and find it very helpful in all life's joys and sorrows. I recommend it unreservedly.
