I really enjoyed reading this book, found it a bit of a page turner. My only criticism is it could have had a few more photos or illustrations especially of the old wide gauge locomotives, carriages, stations and track, however saying that I will certainly will be reading it again sometime in the not to distant future.

As an ex railway signalman this was a good read about a railway that during my career i had little to do with, nevertheless the GWR is a legend, throw in Brunel and it is a fantastic story of how he built the impossible, the legacy of which is still there today.
This is a great read about the skill and determination of a man far ahead of his time building his dream, and what a dream!!

Brilliant in depth story on the history of the building of the line, highlighting all the issues and problems that was encountered during the building of the line. The affects it had on surrounding towns and villages during the construction of the railway

As a railway worker for the past 25years I found reading this book truly inspiring of the great wonders that Brunel achieved. Over my railway career I have seen some of the architectural wonders designed by Brunel but never fully understood the great work and effort gone into them.I hope his architectural genious continues within the railway infrastructure for many years to come.

Infrastructure is The Key Word Here!
If you're interested in the 'Infrastructure' OF THE GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY (GWR) FROM PADDINGTON TO PENZANCE AND 'Beyond' - i.e. the destinations, the building work and operations, the designs of stations and bridges, the railway line and route itself, the railway company etc - then this is an excellent book as it is a very detailed and graphic book with pictures that view very well on the Kindle.
My Interest is in the History of 'The Paddington Area' - which includes The Train Station.
Paddington Station is mentioned 3/4 way through the book where One Chapter is dedicated to Paddington Station.

Thank You!
