.
I went to the concert in Barcelona, and it was fantastic, he didn't perform the Devil in a Blue Dress medley at this concert as he did at some of the other venues, but I'm hoping it will be on the disc as an extra.
No one in the past thirty years of music sings with the heart of Springsteen, and his live shows are legendary, this in particular captures Bruce in a playful mood with his audience, trying to make them have almost as much fun as he was. If you're a Springsteen fan, you'll buy this anyway, but to those who haven't seen a Springsteen show, buy it, and you'll be first in the queue next time he tours.
Finally, note to Robbie Williams, this is how a REAL rock star performs.....

Taken from the early part of the Rising tour when Bruce and the band were effectively warming up for the 3 hour plus shows later in the run, this glorious show - from start to finish - reveals just why Springsteen is way up there with the all-time greats, with what is - with no argument - the greatest live show in rock and roll history. For those of you new to this artist, there is no fancy stage lighting, inflatables or props. No lip-synching or special revolving stages. No costumes. This is the living breathing spirit of rock and roll made flesh. He breathes, he rocks, he feels our pain. Oh and he couldn't be bothered to shave for the show, either. Also, right at the end of the short documentary section on the second disc, just when you thought it was all over, we get a great Bruce bonus track in Diddy Wah Diddy (from 7 September) on the final US stadium stretch of the tour, a sneak preview of what look could well be the next DVD release. But is he still popular? Oh yes - 10 sellouts at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J pulled in 566,560 fans, a world record for one engagement.

Having been to 5 of Springsteen's shows, I think "Live In Barcelona" captures the feeling of a Bruce show like no other. Because it's an entire show, it gives you a feeling for how he finishes one song and dives right into another for three hours. To compare it to "Live in NYC," the filming is infintely better with many different angles from all sides of the stage, as well as shots from the audience's perspective. Also, the Band simply sounds better, and one can tell that they worked very hard to produce the best music out there today. For me, watching songs like Born in the USA, Night, and Incident on 57th Street brought back memories of shows that I've seen: a testament to the fact that "Live in Barcelona" is the epitome of a Bruce Springsteen show.

Aside from the inevitable joke reviews (he does have a larger than average nose, however) many people will remember most of this concert from the VH1 live broadcast last summer. The gig is fairly typical of the set-lists Springsteen performed over the duration of The Rising tour. There are a few surprises from the back catalogue which add to us "completists" collections and which means that we can dump some of those dodgy bootlegs from way back when.
As a showcase for "The Rising" this is, however, about as good as it gets. It illustrates Springsteen's sheer enjoyment in what he does as well as move him on, even further - to another level -as the acceptable conscience of America.
"The Rising" is a great record and it is predictable that tracks from this form the nucleus of the DVD. Seeing him twice in the UK earlier this year, I was struck by how the old songs sit so well with the new. Despite the 9/11 theme, Springsteen's values and liberalism shine out.
"World's Apart" is a fantastic guitar meltdown live song; "Empty Sky" and "Your Missing", one after the other, are extremely powerful, moving and positive recollections of that day.
Fans of the old Springsteen will be relieved to learn that his energy has in no way lessened with old age. "Ramrod" is transformed from an album filler to a show stopper while "Mary's Place" is the new "Rosalita", complete with references to his childhood and early life that resonate full circle with, again, the recurring image of 9/11.
A pogoing "Dancing in the Dark" and a turbo-charged "Born To Run" do the business.
This is an artist on top of his game, in charge of what he does and backed by one of the greatest sets of musicians imaginable.
All in all, worth buying

Totally agree with previous reviews. I was at that concert, it was unforgettable, so I was very much looking forward to having it at home. However, the sound is disgraceful. Even having a decent home cinema, the vocals are almost unhearable. There is no separation of trebels and bass tracks. Only worthy is the stereo track, and is better hear it on the TV. I do not understand how the audio mix engineers dare to release such poor sound quality.
As I am only reviewing the DVD, 3 stars good enough, and only useful to reminding me that night, that's all.

I was in Barcelona on October 16th 2002 an saw Bruce and The E Street Band in one of their legendary nights! Truly, a magnificent concert, one of the best moments of my life. The band was great, the audience totally crazy.
Highlights: Bruce taking the stage, Prove it all night, Waitin' on a sunny day, Badlands,Empty sky, My City of ruins, Land of hope and dreams, Born in the USA, Ramrod, Born to Run (full celebration, the walls of Paulau Saint Jordi trembled) and Thunder Road (just to mention a few). And of course, Max Weinberg's drumming - a show on his own!
If you're a fan you will buy it. If not, you should buy it too because you will see true rock n' roll, with the best live act of all times. You won't be disappointed!
Meanwhile, Bruce and E Streeters: Keep on Rulling!!!
P.S.: The morning after the concert, the newspapers were saying that this was the best concert Palau Saint Jordi has ever seen. I think they were right!
