A traditional metal chassis sewing machine with 14 stitches. Perfect for dress making and everyday household sewing. Has a jam proof drop in bobbin which is great to see how much bobbin thread is left. The LED Day Time Lighting System means that thread colours are not distorted. Please note only plastic bobbins should be used in this machine. The use of metal bobbins will affect stitch quality and in some cases could damage the machine and invalidate the warranty.
ZigZag foot, Buttonhole Foot, Zipper Foot, Set of Needles, Bobbins, Disc Screw Driver and Foot Controller .

This 54 year old man never thought he’d buy a sewing machine. But the stitching jobs were mounting up and I could not see a bad word against this Brother machine. I took the plunge.
Never having seen one used before, the first day was scary. I watched the provided dvd intensely, indeed I would have made a hawk look twitchy. Back there, through that, over. Back there, through that, over. I knew one false move would put me in trouble. I set myself the task of getting it to work that first day. And it did. First time.
Second day all my jobs were done. All done in red but all done. I was so pleased that I got it working, in fact the first time I saw the thread changing onto the bobbin I videoed it! But duvet covers were mended, pants and pyjamas patched. To my absolute amazement three cushions I’d given-up due to detached piping not only could be fixed they actually were fixed! The zig-zag stitch on the second day. I take a bow.
Next important task is to visit your local Library. Trawl all the books they’ve got on machine sewing. Whilst it is an undeniably feminine world it is certainly not just about dressmaking or frilly things. Cushions and curtains and blinds can be made. Trouser hems a doddle. Bike panniers zip can be fixed.
My video shows the only thing lacking from the excellent product dvd: everything in one go. I really did know nothing. I made it in black and white for it is dedicated to all those women who worked on sewing machines in the 1950s. One in particular worked in an Edge Lane factory. My Mum’s been dead for thirty years. It doesn’t feel that way.
I am a novice myself, though I did strip down and rebuild an old singer that wasn't working right and, whilst temperamental, it does sew a nice straight line properly now. Taught myself with You Tube and wished I'd watched my old grandmother when I was a kid now.
Out of the box, there is the machine with one needle fitted and the straight / zigzag foot attached, foot pedal / power lead, some bobbins, some spare 90/14 needles, and a zipper and a buttonhole foot, pretty much all you need apart from thread. Except do make sure the needles supplied are suitable for your project or it may mess up. The needles are not a brand I'm familiar with and trust so probably won't get used. Make sure the needle fitted is not bent and that it has no burrs - mine was fine I think but read on. Make sure your thread is suitable for the material too and is of high quality.
First thing was to wind a bobbin. The threading was a bit odd and the instructions a bit vague - you need to swivel a plastic oval around which was not properly explained - but I did end up with a properly wound bobbin in the end. It doesn't seem to auto-disengage the bobbin winder when full though, just slows down. Threading the bottom thread was easy. Threading the top thread was also fairly easy except my reel was upside down. Threading through the needle was a pain.Read more ›
