So far i have used the a4,a3 printing, the copier and the scanner( i dont have a fax line so cant comment on that) and all work perfectly. i occassionally print cad drawings and had previously used an epson 1290 always with oem ink which cost nearly four times the price of this printer and none of the added features of this printer, the print head broke for no reason so i decided to go for the chapest a3 printer and use cheap compatible ink cartridges. cheap cartridges are readily available for this pinter and also the use of individual colour tanks mean you only replace the empty colour not the whole colour cartridge like the epson 1290. this printer picks up the diferent line weights of the cad drawings perfectly and the print quality is equal to if not better than my old priner. Speed of printing is not a major consideration for me but it again is faster than my old epson prnter.
BOTTOM LINE it is a great a3 prnter for the money, packed with features and cheap cartridgs are readily available for it.
The printer was very easy to set up, and having used it for daily business for the past month or so, there is very little that I can find to fault it. The only comprimises appear to be that the scanner for this model will only accomodate A4 size documents, which wasn't a major issue for me, and that there is a single paper tray (the tray needs to be extended for A3 which was a little fiddly and has a slightly flimsly tray cover), and consequently you will need to manually change paper sizes.
On the many plus sides, the A3/A4 printing is very quick (once document buffering complete)and the Standard print quality is excellent. I've not yet tested the High quality print output @ 1200x6000 dpi, but judging by the results of A3 prints on Standard settings, I don't think I will be disappointed. The multiple sheet feeder on top of the unit works equally well, for Scanning direct to the computer to create image files and PDF's, or for photocopying direct to printer.
The main thing that really sets this printer apart as an excellent value purchase, is the cost of the generic ink cartridges that came as part of the 'frequently bought together' deal. A multi-pack of 10 cartridges cost less than £1.50 per cartridge, and that includes the postage & packaging. At these sort of prices for consumables, any future worries of overuse of ink and wastage are completely eliminated
