This unit was purchased as a replacement overlocker for my wife who works from home as a professional Sewing Machinist. It replaced her previous overlocker, also a Brother model.
The unit arrived promptly, was extremely well packed (the original Brother box was inside another sturdy box) and was exactly as described. She has used the machine and it works well.
The Instruction Booklet included is adequate, but probably lets down what is otherwise an excellent machine. Threading the four spools is likely to be the most daunting task to the beginner, and the simplistic diagram provided in the manual is not the most helpful aid. This is particularly relevant with the final threading of spool 4, where the thread needs to go through a tiny hole in a sliding shaft. My wife persevered, and finally succeeded in completing the threading, but I was on the point of suggesting she tried You Tube to check for any instructional videos. I have since checked You Tube myself and YES, there are a number of helpful videos, though surprisingly none from the manufacturer themselves.

I used to own a Singer overlocker and it was a nightmare. So much so that I hardly ever used it and tended to 'overlock' as such on my sewing machine instead. I recently started sewing again much more than I have done in years and decided to treat myself to a new overlocker/serger.

I did my research and for quite some time, set my heart on a Frister & Rossmann as they tend to be easy peasy to thread and do good quality stitching however, having just spent £1500 on a new embroidery sewing machine, my funds were a bit limited. I toyed with the idea of a Toyota but ended up with this one instead. It is the best choice by far. For the money, it is fantastic. It is a shame it does not do coverhem/coverstitch and it would be perfect but you cannot moan for the price.

The stitch quality is great and looks very professional. It comes with a gathering foot and a blind hem foot too however, I find that doing fabric gathering with the standard foot is perfectly fine. So far I have used this overlocker far more than I ever thought I would. In fact, I have been able to almost completely make garments WITHOUT using my sewing machine. I have made skirts and dresses for my children by overlocking the seams, blind hemming the bottom and narrow rolled hemming in a contrast colour the edges around the neck and armholes. I can even gather and overlock together the bodice and skirt to create a nice girly dress with a full flared skirt. It cuts down the time to almost half for making a garment that does not require 'haute couture' techniques.

In fact, until I got this machine, I really only ever thought of overlocking seams with an overlocker. You can also purchase separately, feet for cording and applying beading etc.

My first overlocker and I love it! I was apprehensive about the threading process but needn't have been. It's an absolute doddle.

Delivery speed was amazing too: ordered it at 3pm and it arrived the next morning.

Overall, incredibly pleased with the purchase.

I had no over locking experience at all so did a lot of research across the web looking for something that I thought I would be able to get on with. I didn't buy mine from Amazon, but from a web based company who were super helpful over the phone when I asked some questions. I have had it for a few months now and thought I would give it a review.

1. Oil it - it isn't made clear at the beginning of the instruction book to do this, but much further on, so give it oil where indicated and to keep it smooth running, clean it out and oil it regularly.

2. Make sure the thread extension is pulled right up - otherwise your threads will break.

3. If you want to change your thread colour, cut your thread and tie them to the new thread with a little knot, you can then pull your threads through without having to head scratch about getting the re threading done correctly - having said all that I did not struggle at all with the re threading as there are very clear instructions on mine.

4. The three thread is just as good as the 4 thread, use the little allen key to loosen the needles, take out the right hand side one and corresponding thread.

5. You can use the over locker without the blade if you don't want to cut !

6. Watch the demo film, there is so much you can do with this machine.

I have found no tension issues with any of the fabrics I have been using.

For my first overlocker I could not be happier - seriously, it is behaving beautifully, it's easy to use and a joy to have in my sewing room.

Would I recommend - your darn right I would !

Im a first time user to over lockers so cannot compare to other machines. I went mainly on existing reviews. What I can say is after persevering with re-threading for the first time I now feel confident to re-thread again using the clear instructions in the instruction manual. The video was useful too as I like to watch a demonstration before I have a go. I'm really pleased with the professional looking result especially as it cuts the fabric at the same time. The only down side is its quite noisy but for the price, its good value for money.
