Product Description

Product Description

The Brother FS40 is an electronic sewing machine featuring 40 stitches, perfect for dress making, home furnishings and more professional items. It's suitable for the advanced sewer, but also if you're new to sewing and want a feature packed machine. The Start/ Stop button and slide speed control enable you to control the machine with your hands and without the included foot control. It has a drop in bobbin and an automatic bobbin winder, so you no longer need to wind your bobbins manually. The 5 x 1 step button holes allow you to sew perfect button holes of different sizes. Automatic stitch selection and stitch length and width control make the machine even easier to use. An LED light means that you never need to replace it, and your threads are not discoloured by the yellow sheen of a traditional bulb. A reverse sewing button enables you to easily lock your stitches off, whilst the 7 included feet allow you to embellish your creations even further. The Brother FS40 comes with an instructional DVD that shows all aspects of the machine - perfect if you're a beginner. It also has a manufacturer's warranty of 3 years. Brother Customer Helpline Number: 08444 999 444. Please note only plastic bobbins should be used in this machine. The use of metal bobbins will affect stitch quality and in some cases could damage the machine and invalidate the warranty.

I bought this machine as a beginner, not expecting a lot given its price, however this machine has pleasantly surprised me. This machine has no problem quilting, sewing jeans or general everyday sewing. The machine comes with a wide range of feet allowing you to be very creative, lots of further feet available also. Very easy to use and just generally a great machine, I wouldn't change this for the world now! I like the fact that I can operate this by either the foot pedal or the start and stop button.

I first started sewing with a 40 year old singer zig zag machine. Unfortunately the older the machine got, the louder it got and in the end my mum, who lives next door, was so fed up of the faux freight train sound vibrating through the walls that she dragged me out to shop to buy a new machine. I was a relative beginner and knew nothing about the bells and whistles technology offers these days. What I did know was, I needed an idiot proof machine, something not too big and clunky, and something that could take a pounding. I wanted to go computerised and mums budget was tight, I thought I was looking at a low end, lucky to last a year sewing machine, but thankfully I was wrong.
This little gem was perfect, I would even go as far as to say it is fool proof. It worked right out the box, with no more than a cursory glance at the quick start guide, before I was away sewing my first project (cushion covers). The stitches are always neat and the movement as the fabric feeds through is smooth and even. It has three speeds, I found this is very useful for a beginner and also versatile for different projects. I have subjected this machine to almost 2 years hard labour and I sew long hours, daily. Everything from clothes to teddy bears and I have even dabbled with quilting. The machine has never skipped a stitch and keeps up with the demands I make of it with no effort on it's part at all. The throat of the machine is quite small, but don't be deceived, I have had a double quilt through it with only a little bit of awkward manouvering. I also free motioned a smaller quilt and was delighted with the results. My machine was a high street purchase and came with an extension table that I think is availble on Amazon separately.

Thrilled to bits with this purchase, very fast delivery and very happy so far with this machine. A step up from my previous one with lots of options, only complaint is it doesn't have a needle threader.

Bought this for my wife, she loves it so easy to use.
With lots of fancy stitches at the touch of a button.
It has a slow speed which helps when sewing fiddley
things. So easy to thread up but comes with a dvd if you
have any problems.

User friendly, I really like the pedal free option and it's nice and quiet. Flimsy plastic cover provided, I would suggest purchasing a more substantial case for added protection. Also just a tad plasticky after my all metal Pfaff, but this does mean it's light weight to carry. Very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend to others.

Bought for my wife and she loves it. Lightest and most versatile machine she has ever had. Doesn't now use the foot control so another bonus as it was often a fail point on other machines.

This is a great solid machine and sews consistently.

However there are a few problems. When sewing with a double needle even on the middle speed it tends to drop stitches, the only way to get a perfect double stitch is to go on the slowest speed which is quite frustrating. The machine is also not suitable for shirring. Even when the elastic thread is pulled tight on the bobbin the stitch isn't tight enough. The screw on the bobbin case is so stiff that I'm not able to adjust the tension.

Love it!! for the money this machine packs a punch - it sews anything from organza to heavy denim and furnishing fabrics. The tension actually works (which is completely the opposite to my last machine). I would purchase this machine again readily - if you have the cash to also buy the brother 1034d overlocker you are set up for all sewing jobs
