At this point I got a refund and decided to role the dice with the Brooks Beast, and what a great call that was. A little heavier than I am used to in a shoe, but I am a big guy (6'3, 18st), so that doesn't bother me much, but the build quality feels great so far, and the stability given is excellent, no problems with my knees since getting these.
I like the color and look, so very happy with this purchase.
[Update - 1 March 2016)
I have just bought a new pair of trainers, and happened upon this review, which is in need of an update.
A couple of months after writing this review, a couple of holes appeared in the upper mesh, looks like they had just frayed. Wouldn't be enough for anyone to really noticed, but it did bug me a bit. Fast forward about 9 months after purchase, and again stitching starting to fray around the front foot. Again, nothing major, just a bit untidy looking. These were worn entirely for leisure, not road running.
Am still happy to wear the shoe, but am knocking a star off my original 5 due to the lack of durability.
Back in the saddle of the Beast, now painless, well cushioned and it tolerates every terrain I put it through.
I found if you put them in the washing machine they shrink by about half a size. Washing machine temperature was only 30 degrees.
I would expect running shoes to take this temperature. That is the only down side.
I wear custome orthotics with these, they fit well and add that extra level of arch support I require.
The shoes do feel a little heavier than previous shoes I've owned (Asics Gel Evolution & Asics Gel Foundation) but presently I'm finding its helping in building my running form as I concentrate more on my foot stirke to quiten the slapping sound as they hit the floor.
If you suffer like I do with Timmy feet then these are the shoes for you.
For some reason, shoes like these are expensive in Australia. I like to pick up a couple of pairs overseas when I can. The price on Amazon UK was the best I could find, even including postage. They arrived sooner than promised.
