In the early 1980s Italian cinema was in full swing, producing `homages' and blatant rip-offs of anything that was popular in the Hollywood cinema of the time. So when both The Warriors, Mad Max and Escape From New York hit it big it wasn't long before Italy produced their own post-apocalyptic tale set in New York. In charge of bringing an Italian twist to the genre was producer Fabrizio De Angelis, who handed the directorial reigns to prolific director Enzo G. Castellari who had become known for producing great movies on low budgets, and so The Bronx Warriors Trilogy was born. The Bronx Warriors Trilogy have been long-regarded as cult-classics of the 80s, and its not hard to see why - filled with action, violence, gore and that special 'spaghetti' twist, the three are examples of some of the best in Italian `homage cinema'.

What this great boxset from Shameless has is Castellari's complete post-apocalyptic vision on DVD in The Bronx Warriors trilogy, an exclusive three-disc collection featuring the cult classics The Bronx Warriors, its sequel Escape From The Bronx and The New Barbarians. If you love Italian knock-offs, then these cult classic exploitation flicks are required viewing, these films were great fun and had alot of cheap sets along with some unintentionally hilarious bad dialogue (especially from the lead character Trash), and yet you can't help but love these films.

In 1982's The Bronx Warriors, perm-sporting, tight-trouser wearing Trash (Di Gregorio) comes to the rescue of a socially conscious teenage heiress who finds herself amongst the gangs of the Bronx which in the year 1990, is a lawless mess.

out of curiosity i was captivated by the metal box set of the bronx warriors trilogy and decided to buy it from HMV for under 17pund which i can say was money well spent.

yes the first two bronx warriors films are well executed rip offs of the cult classic warriors films and beats it heads down for action if not the acting.

as for the third i was laughing my head off, the barbarians was done on a meagre budget since most of it was spent on the second Bronx warriors film, sound effects and sfx for guns was like somthing that came from a school play ground, whilst the cars looked as though they came straight from the set of blue peter yet worse the car chase was set on an air strip but it was an enjoyable film to watch since scorpio goes up against a bunch of goons of the white knights templer set on exterminating the last remnants of the human race for the start of the atomic holocost which their bright white uniforms looked like they have been borrowed off the set of buck rogers.

These are cult classics to enjoy the italians may have made dodgy copies over the years of well known films but these three stand above them.

These three films are long lost 80s classics, part action and sci-fi as set into the future (well was the future back then) groups of gangs fight each other to control the Bronx, all three have cheesy stories and acting and effects etc but the ideas at the time where great and they are still such great entertainment even now especially if the 80s are one of your favourite eras in movies! This special collection is the most complete set ever released, you get an amazing tin box to keep them in, all discs have great features like trivia tracks telling you everything you need to know about the films plus lots more.
