About the Author

That rather exotic surname derives from my lovely Persian husband to whom I've been married for thirty years. We have two grown-up children, Farah and Ben, who live seemingly happy, independent lives away from home now. And home for me is Northern Ireland, the place I itched to flee from during the Troubles but inevitably drew me back for good. Although my professional career has always been in teaching I began taking my hobby of creative writing more seriously after several major successes in literary competitions. These included Downtown Radio/Eason s short story award, Listowel (winner in both poetry and prose) and the Mencap National short story competition. Happily my work has since been broadcast on BBC Radio Ulster s My Story series and RTE s Sunday Miscellany amongst others. My debut novel Attachment came from a desire to experiment with literary style and is a contemporary thriller written in e-mail format. Of Broken Things , a more conventional novel, was inspired by the anecdotes and stories from my childhood, sadly reminiscent of a vanishing Ireland that I am keen to keep alive.

A powerful novel with a storyline that is sweet, sad and soulful. It has a quality that I believe would translate into a marvellous film. I loved this very well told story. Despite the aforesaid it was a hard life in Ireland in the early 1900's, this book catches the stark reality and creates a weave of violence, tragedy, fear, mistrust and implications of abuse from an alcoholic father. The tapestry that the book creates is further enhanced by the telling of a mother's love for her two children, the love of a boy for his baby sister and her absolute devotion to him. In turn the boy emerges into manhood, finds love of his own for a girl and this leads BRILLIANTLY into a sequel opportunity.

Kindle has added a new dimension to my reading.

Of Broken things is a beautifully crafted poignant story set in early 1900's Ireland. The story is about the harshness of life at that time and in particular of a young boy's struggle to survive. As the story unfoulds the characters get under your skin. They come alive on the page and the reader is immediately engaged. I couldn't put this book down until I had finished it. It's a real page turner with a plot that unfolds naturally with style and fluidity. OF BROKEN THINGS is atmospheric in it's clever detail throughout. Lynda Tavakoli is a wonderful storyteller and I will be looking out for her next book.

A stark and at times unsettling book. It immerses the reader in the harsh daily life of rural Ireland circa the 1930s. The consequences of issues arising from ignorance, intolerance and a demand for conformity lead to heartbreaking secrets. A story of unbreakable friendship, truth and finally hope. Riveting!
