Being that M/M books are one of my favourite genres, I’ve read loads, and I really enjoyed this one.
Nix had me feeling sorry for him from the start. His life is pretty crappy. With his father in prison, and his mother’s testimony being the main thing keeping him there, Nix finds himself in the midst of it all. His father, and his aid Donny, are blackmailing Nix to break into the solicitor office and get the evidence against him. That’s where the story starts as Nix gets caught by the sexy Harvey and, after getting his Mum out the country to safety, agrees to keep Harvey in the loop.
Harvey doesn’t have time for relationships, and certainly not with clients, but Nix seems to get under his skin, and the chase between the two of them starts. I love how this story unfolds and the chemistry between them both is hot. I like how it’s not your mainstream love affair. The story is a crime waiting to happen, and it certainly does.
The other characters are a blast and so funny, they had me laughing, wanting to back track and read their stories too.
Will they get their HEA? Try this book to find out. I know I’m going back to read more from this author.
This is the first book in the series I have read and although it can be read as a stand alone I wish I would have read them in order to know the backgrounds of the other characters. Hence the 4 stars.
Books after fifty
Jessica Frances writes a story that enthralls you, I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. She created strong characters that love hard and chemistry that jumps from the pages.

This book starts about two weeks after the epilogue of the previous book so they line up perfectly. It takes place over Christmas and New Years but even though I am labeling this Christmas, it’s not really a main focus of the story.
We got to know Harvey Newberry in the previous book. He is Teagan’s best friend and one of the private investigators at the firm. He has trouble connecting with people and rarely speaks. There was a special connection between he and Teagan and he started coming out of his shell a little better with his co-workers. Even so, they still hardly knew him. At their company’s Christmas party, the son of a client disappears down the hallway and when Harvey follows he finds him breaking into his office. Then chaos ensues and Harvey ends up on top of him. Thus begins an entire new chapter in Harvey’s life, one that now includes someone new.
Phoenix (Nix) Conway owns a restaurant and bar called The Daily. He hasn’t been open but a few years and it still struggling to succeed. Nix lives close by in a ratty apartment but doesn’t mind since all his waking hours are at the restaurant. Nix doesn’t have time for a relationship. The closest he came, the man couldn’t handle his work hours. So Nix has given up. Nix enjoys a close relationship with his mother but his father, an abusive man who has hated him since he came out, and is also a criminal, has threatened Nix with his mother’s life if he doesn’t obtain the files that Harvey has on him. But when he broke into Harvey’s office, things didn’t go as planned.
Harvey and Nix may have had a rough start but it is evident from that first encounter that there is something there. Nix brings out something in Harvey that no one else has ever seen. He makes him smile, laugh even. They both experience a comfort level with each other they have never felt before. But the threat from his father isn’t over. And his father wants more from Nix and he is holding both Harvey’s safety and his mother’s over his head.
What did I love about this book…everything! Harvey and Nix were just so great together. Having gotten to know Harvey, I loved seeing this new side of him, the way he protected Nix. He actually seemed to accept his feelings easier than Nix did. I also loved the way they interacted with the rest of the group, the way everyone just accepted Nix into the fold. The way they were all so thrilled for Harvey to have found someone.
This book was sweet and sexy, actually, it was pretty smoking hot! But it was really suspenseful as well as the danger progressed. As in the other books, everything builds to a nail biting peak. I thought Jessica Frances wrote the developing relationship between Harvey and Nix so well. As I said, I haven’t read all that many M/M books so I guess I wasn’t prepared to fall in love with these two so much but I really did. You can definitely read this as a stand alone. The only draw back is that all of the characters are recurring so you won’t have gotten the chance to meet the rest of the bunch and fall in love with them as I have. So I recommend you start at the beginning so you can meet each couple. Each book just gets better and better. So prepare to fall in love with this bunch of people. I most certainly have. I can’t wait to see what comes next with this series!
I loved Harvey in the previous book, so there may have been screams of joy when I discovered this is his book. Ok, fine. There was definitely fangirl screaming and I have no regrets. HARVEY. IS. EVVVVVVVERYTHING! He is absolutely magnificent. The quiet and brooding Harvey we only got a glimpse of before was everything I hoped he would be and more. Him and Nix were *sigh* so freaking perfect. Nix’s much more social and gentle personality balanced perfectly with Harvey bringing out more and more of the mysterious man.
Tight knit and close as ever, the entire group is there to “help” these two along and providing constant hilarity with their true love and friendship. I just can’t get enough of all of these characters.
I found this one to be well written and well paced. The plot was engaging and kept me turning the pages. This whole series has a bit of a KA ROCK CHICK feel to it I love. I didn't find it particularly angsty. Harvey and Nix dance around each other a bit at the start but they soon settle into a "relationship" of sorts. There was a bit of OM drama. Most of the books so far have been fairly tame, but this one was SMOKIN' HOT and we get down to the business pretty quickly. This was a nice change of pace from previous books and I think really added a bit extra to the story. Again we have a great cast of supporting characters. I love the whole women group. I loved when they were all drunk with Nix. They are a funny (if maybe a little annoying at times) bunch. All the couples from the previous books make an appearance, plus a couple of characters we meet for the first time. So speaking of secondary characters, I HATED Teagan in this book. She doesn't even get a lot of page space but every time she did she was being a judgy bitch towards Nix. I get it, Harvey is your BFF and you don't want him hurt but lighten the f@ck up already. And you know what is even funnier? She doesn't even say much of anything. She just shot "disapproving" looks at him every time they were in the same room. Gah...such a tiny thing but it drove me up the damn wall!
Both main characters were extremely likable. I already knew I would love Harvey, and I did. He was dominating. He was sweet. He was smokin' hot. But again as with all the other books in the series, I wish this author would write dual POVs. It wasn't as noticeable as with the previous book but I would have liked to have gotten into Harvey's head a bit. I think books that have duel POVs always seem to have a complete feel to them. But like I said, I didn't feel completely disconnected from Harvey as I did with Joey. Nix was also a really great hero. He was smokin' hot as well. He was sweet. He was tough. He had smokin' on page chemistry with Harvey. Last, it was all wrapped up in an OK ending and here is where I had the MAJOR issue with this book. The ending. I finished the chapter before the epilogue and the couple hadn't said those three little words. So I thought for sure that would happen in the epilogue which takes place one year later. Nope. Nothing. I was super disappointed. Now to be fair, I can't remember if this was also the case in the previous books (I don't think it was) but If it was I didn't notice it. It left me feeling a bit letdown. I wanted to hear those words and I also think Nix needed to hear those words. Also, I am not sure if this is the final book in the series or not. If it is, I would have expected something a little more detailed about all the couples to wrap up the series nicely. But maybe the author is writing more books.
Even with those little issues, I found this one to be the best of the series there yours truly will give it two HUGE thumbs up.
