Product description

About the Author

Paul Chapman, founder and ex Chairman of the Northampton branch of The Western Front Association, is a keen historian and has been a member of the WFA for many years. Paul is also a member of the Talbot House Association. A regular visitor to France and Flanders, for a number of years he has arranged and escorted tours to the Ypres Salient. Paul's interest in the Great War on the western front stems from his paternal grandparents. His grandfather served with the Canadian Army Service Corps and, after his demobilisation became, along with many fellow ex-servicemen, one of the first to join the ranks of the Imperial (now Commonwealth) War Graves Commission.

The star rating should be enough. I do not want to write a separate review each time for a simple purchase and will not do so in future. Try not to make it a pain or your customers!

The book is new, very good condition, indeed, but unfortunately the pictures are drawn and small so they are not too helpful to identify shells which was my purpose of buying it !

I bought this - quite expensive - book as it claimed to use the illustrations of George Sowerby to illuminate the text. Unfortunately they have been scanned and reproduced in such an amateur fashion many are hard to recognise even as shells, and consequently have little or no use as valuable aids to identification. I am surprised the author and the production team at Pen and Sword were happy to release such a shoddy piece of work.
