Finding recordings of British Light Music is not easy. This CD has a good representative selection all well performed by top class orchestras and conductors.

As a starter collection it would be difficult to beat this CD

Superb sound quality in these digitally remastered recordings made by EMI. Also this CD is a perfect example of the music we used to hear a great deal on the radio in the pre- Rock 'n' Roll days of the early to mid 1950s. much of this light music has gone out of fashion and is no longer appreciated by many young people. A memorable disc to listen to.

It's not surprising that the revival of interest in British Light Music that accompanied the series of Marco Polo anthologies in the 1990s should have led EMI and others to reissue parts of their back catalogue of the genre. This is a compilation of some of the plums from several collections recorded at intervals between 1955 and 1970. The remastering has been done with the utmost care and certainly freshens the presentation of the music. Throughout one is delighted by the affection, vitality and, where appropriate, humour injected into these wonderful little pieces. This is without doubt a collection to be enjoyed by all but some collectors will find that it duplicates items that they already have, so it might suit particularly well somebody who doesn't own any light music repertoire but would like to explore further.
