Format: Paperback
..Christie's book is an excellent survey of theeighteenth century country house, which uses historical, archival, and art historicalsources in order to examine the role of the country house in the Georgian period. He succesfully explores the political significance of the country house, and usefully examines the relationship between the house and the landscape in which it sat. The idea of the house as a home, an exhibition space, and location for entertainment are discussed, reflecting the multiple roles of the Country House.
This is an excellent text for country house scholars of all levels, and the simple and accessible style means that the keen country house visitor will learn a great deal from this wellresearched and thought provoking text.
