I enjoy Osprey books, a useful introduction to topics I know little about but want a decent overview of - with illustrations - to increase my knowledge which I can then expand, if I want to, with more detailed books. Unfortunately, the wealth of interesting photographs and artwork which makes Osprey books so appealing is now lacking, as I received this book today and saw that it was a 'Print on Demand' - which means it's printed off now and then as required rather than done at a proper printers - on poor quality paper, with dire photographic quality (pixelated and blurry when the original run of the book was probably crystal clear) and blurry appearance to what looks like fantastic artwork by Tony Bryan. The contents of the book itself are superb - it's a shame that it is heavily let down by the quality of how it is printed. Poor show by Osprey allowing this to happen, i'll think twice about buying new Osprey books again without seeing them in person. Treating the hard work of writers and illustrators, and the readers, with poor quality work will ruin publishing

Well written history of the fleet carriers in R.N. service during the second world war,the development of the carrier between the wars is covered, then a description of flight deck operations followed by a wartime service history of each carrier, for a book of 48 pages these are very detailed. The final chapter gives the specifications and builders yard of each ship.Good photographs, brilliant paintings by Tony Bryan, these are not spread over two pages, this is done only to the cutaway of H.M.S.Illustrious.
