The research that has gone into this book and the details that have resulted are incredibly impressive. Perhaps because of the amount of information this is not an easy read but, especially given the recent upsurge in interest, this is a book that anyone interested in the subject needs to read.
It should be said that it is more of a study of the ships and the squadron than of the "Trade" itself but nonetheless and absolutely superb book.
If you want to know about the Slave Trade and want some perspective then you need to read this book.

This is a minute description of which British ships entered which bits of coastline and either did or didn't arrest suspected slaver ships, which might or might not have been sailing under false flags. It seems to be a digest of the logs of all the ships ever involved, saying how many days each ship stayed in each port and how many sailors died each day. Yes, as another reviewer said, an impressive piece of research - best fitted for an obscure PhD dissertation. There are one or two paragraphs in each Chapter that discuss changes in the law or changes in treaties with other (ex)slaver nations but I admit to giving up before I could see any discussion of whether these British ships actually reduced the trade.
The proof editing is poor. Repeated words, anagrams, and I think I found an instance where the order of 2 paragraphs had been swapped.

A very comprehensive account of an oft ignored period. It is not an easy read, because of the harrowing nature of the events and the style of the prose; but a worthwhile read. Recommended.

To read about how the royal navy contributed to the war against the slave trade. In my opinion it ought to be compulsory reading in all schools.

I read this over several days. It is intriguing and interesting and I was fascinated by this part of history. It is however heavy going in places and not a book that could be read in one sitting.

Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A topical book, not fabulously well-written and there are some formatting problems in the book, which I assume will be fixed prior to publishing.
This book will appeal to researchers or people with an interest and knowledge of the history of slavery or England's naval history, An insightful read.

I throughly enjoyed reading this book. A interesting, informative and very-well written account of the British Empire’s war on the slave trade in the 19th Century.
