Even though I have been to New York twice before (ooh get me), my travelling companion has always been the "tour guide", and ive gone along with her ideas where to visit... but this time i want to include some destination ideas, and she suggested The Brits Guide to me. I find it really easy to use, i like how it includes "translations" of american-british, lots of little eye-catching pop-ups on most pages, and its helpfully divided into sections like eating out/ tourist attractions, etc. I'm even more excited about visiting the Big Apple after reading this book (if thats possible)

As a retired travel and restaurant guide book writer you might imagine that it takes a lot to get praise from me but this book has earned it in shed loads! Well written and well organised, it's easy to find what you're looking for and does the job that would normally involve the purchase of a number of separate books and maps to achieve. With sections on: what to do and see; museums and galleries; shopping and beauty; restaurants and night-life; theatre and film; where to stay and much much more - it's the only guide book you'll need for your trip. It is also cleverly littered with 'Brit Tips' that give helpful hints on various topics right where you need them e.g. where you can get the best view of New York for the price of a drink; how to get in to a very popular restaurant; when's the cheapest time to go to the cinema etc., and this really excellent book also provides lots of useful web site addresses for those who want even more information. All in all the best money I have spent on a publication this year - congratulations to all involved!

This is a great book, especially the 'Brit Tips' I've visited New York before, but wanted to get an update on the city as I felt I missed so much the first time around - This book gives lots of visiting tips as well as reviewing some of the popular and maybe not so popular hotspots.

This guide was found to be invaluable when making our first trip across the Big Pond. Beforehand it was useful when planning an itinerary and, once there, it was an excellent guide, giving lots of factual information plus tips tailor-made for the inexperienced Brit in the US. It gives just enough information on where to stay, things to see, places to eat at and excursions to take without going into too much unnecessary detail which would have made the book heavy or awkward to carry around. I understand it's published afresh every year, so is always up to date. An excellent guidebook for the Brit abroad. Highly recommended.

This book was so helpful on my trip to NYC in June 2012. Despite being a second hand one which was out of date it was the best thing I took to NYC.
I read it cover to cover before I travelled and never left the hotel without it.
The map was fantastic. We never got lost and always found somewhere decent to eat.
I chose about 50% of the restaurants we ate at based on tips from this book and none disappointed - am I am really fussy!
We even travelled well out of our way to find some of them.
This book gave us the confidence to explore thoroughly.
I will most definitely be buying the up to date version for my next trip there.
I wish there was a Brits guide by Amanda to every destination!

Really really good.. lots of Brit tips for us, lots of insight little things that if not read them in the book you would miss out on and lots of info about lots of other stuff besides the sightseeing routine.. the only downside would be the weight of it.. I really wished it was lighter, but a jewel nevetherless..
