I bought this as I am a fan of the Orlando version (and would not go to Orlando without it!). However, I am not a fan of this book. It is very blandly written (almost as if the writer has not been there). The "Brit tips" range from the sublime to the ridiculous (eg "always take a small bottle of water with you wherever you go") (WHY???) and although apparently re-written every year, already contains out of date advice for 2013 (eg in relation to visiting the Statue of Liberty, or the 911 Memorial).

It is laid out in a very cumbersome way, so you really need to read it all - it is not easy to dip in and out of. Also, there are very few photos and pictures, and a lot of those are on pages with no relevant text - it seems that they have been randomly placed throughout the book where there is a gap.

I have sent this item back because it is so disappointing.

Bought the Florida version of this many years ago when we went to Orland, full of interesting stuff. So, we were not disappointed by the New York version, again full of very useful stuff and a must for any first timers to The Big Apple!

A useful guide to New York but there are a lot of Guide Books that do it Better. The Brit viewpoint is interesting but the first time visitor to New York would be better off getting a Lonely Planet or Rough Guide to the city.

This was by far the best guide book I had bought prior to my visit to New York in December 2012. It gives lots of relevant information and doesn't bore you with the usual. The reason I haven't given it 5 stars is because it doesn't have a map that you can take out with you - you have to take the whole book.

Bought this after buying the Brit's guide to Orlando, not sure what is is but the Orlando guide seemed more useful. This one was very bland and the sections were sometimes a real chore to get through. Organising it by areas makes sense but did lead to repetition when a store was available in different areas. How about a section for each type of shopping - say luxury brands, affordable prices, etc.

I did find the Brit Tips useful as well as the translation from british to american english when it came to a few things.

The guide to the subway was great too.

I'm yet to use it when I'm out there yet, so will re-evaluate if necessary.

At the moment it seems that the book isn't 100% sure what it wants to be...a planning tool or a guide for when you are out there.

No hostels listed which was a shame too.

First trip to New York and what a find this book was- written exactly for the likes of us. Easy to find our way around it with lots of Brit Tips which were extremely useful- including about transport and navigation around Manhattan. The book came out with us every day and we had a magical time.

This book is a must have. I have been a great many times to new york and have always found this book a gem. It tells you everything you need to know especially sights and shopping! Also used the money off coupons to my advantage. HIghly recommeded.

The book seems OK but the large map at the front is wrong. 5th Avenue is where West becomes East but not in this book. Not very good for Brits who have never been before. Also if that's wrong, what else is wrong.
