The Octagon 40 Advance is a high specification unit which takes the guesswork out of egg incubation.
48 hen egg (or equivalent) capacity. Adjustable for eggs from quail to goose size without extras
Easy to clean
4 whisper quiet fans and computer modelled temperature distribution for optimum hatch rates
Double skinned insulated base for low energy consumption and even temperature
The Octagon 40 Advance combines the high performance Octagon cabinet and egg handling with Brinsea's Advance digital control system which puts the control of the incubation process firmly in the hands of the user and ensures reliable hatch rates, time after time.
In normal mode the display shows the incubation temperature and humidity to very high levels of accuracy. The simple menu allows the user to change incubation settings.
Temperature and humidity display (choice of deg.C or deg.F)
Temperature and power fail alarms with adjustable sensitivity
NEW cooling option
The Octagon 40 Advance can be upgraded to EX specification with the addition of the Brinsea humidity pump (AD44) to give full automatic control of humidity.
Cabinet. The high quality incubator cabinets are entirely injection moulded from high grade ABS which makes them durable and easy to clean. The base is double skinned and foam filled to reduce heat loss meaning lower electricity consumption and better temperature distribution. The incubator tops are clear allowing good visibility of the eggs and chicks inside.
Humidity and ventilation. Air is circulated by long life computer fans which, coupled with the unique grilles with optimised air diffusers, means extremely even air temperature throughout the egg chamber. F

"This arrived incredibly quickly from seller - in fact even before the status had been updated on Amazon - so top marks there.
First impressions are that it is well made and of reasonably sturdy construction. I say 'reasonably' because it is all plastic and at some point it will inevitably get cracked which will probably require the unit to be replaced. This is most likely to happen when lifting the lid off and setting on a work bench. As can be seen from the photo the clear lid is rounded so it doesn't sit firmly on a work surface and can be easily pulled by the power cord. That is the only reason for 4 stars - that is quite expensive for some molded plastic, a computer fan, and a basic heater and controller.
However, on the positive side it is very easy to use, the settings are quite simple to configure and the instructions are very simple to follow. It seems to be very good at maintaining a constant temperature and humidity. The unit is quite noisy - probably the computer fan - so you may want to put it in a utility room or elsewhere.
There is a built in alarm that triggers on certain events like a power failure. Adding an alarm to the AutoTurn Cradle would also be useful in case someone carelessly leaves an item against the incubator preventing it from rotating properly."
My thoughts on the Octagon 40 are broadly the same. However I've noticed due to its size it seems to be better at maintaining a steady temperature and humdity. The lid and the base also attach a bit better to produce a close seal which probably helps. However, I've noticed on the Octagon 20 than when chicks are fluffing up in the incubator after hatching there is a lot of tiny hairs starting to collect in the hans and heating elements, which will be very difficult to clean out. Looks like the Octagon 40 will suffer the same problem.
