This is very different from rubber or team of four play. Most bridge books concentrate on bidding or play of the cards. This book, with a series of illustrative deals, explains the bidding and tactics needed to be a successful pairs player. It is almost a booklet rather than a book but the content is well explained and covers a surprisingly wide range of thought adjustments needed for this form of the game. If you play pairs regularly your scores will improve immediately after studying this book. What are you waiting for?!!
I wasn't disappointed. He kept to his usual format of a discrete lesson to each page with a pertinent exemplar deal. He is a natural teacher and has a wonderful ability to gradually increase the difficulty as the book progresses without appearing to do so. In this book he makes the tactics and mathematics of Duplicate simple and accessible to everyone. I loved it and couldnt put it down. I am sure that reading this book gives you an edge at Duplicate .... my scores since I read it sure seem to suggest that! He has kept up his very high standard in this excellent book.
Making me think that I too often push to game when maybe better for us to play part score and make over tricks
I often set up one of the demonstrated games when I hold a bridge session at home. We then get chance to check we are in the correct contract and that we played our cards to best possible advantage.
