Romantic comedy starring Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson as two best friends who become arch rivals overnight when they realise they have scheduled their fairytale weddings for the same date. Their competitiveness knows no bounds as both women resort to ever more devious tactics to secure the very best of everything - including the guest list - for themselves.
How important is the perfect wedding? Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Liv (Kate Hudson) have been best friends since childhood and each has always dreamed of an extravagant wedding at the Plaza hotel. When both friends get engaged in the same week, they rush to the exclusive wedding planner Marion St. Claire (Candice Bergen) to book the perfect weddings at the Plaza hotel. The reservations get mixed up and both weddings end up scheduled on the same day and, since there are no other suitable openings available at the Plaza, the friends find themselves in the impossible situation of having to decide who will sacrifice her long-held dream and change venues. It turns out that neither woman is willing to give up her plans for a perfect wedding and the friends turn against one another in a hilarious battle that results in everything from blue hair to rumours of pregnancy and embarrassing home videos accompanying one bride's walk down the aisle. Can even a life-long friendship survive the emotional turmoil of two weddings gone wrong? Bride Wars is an amusing look at the trials of friendship and love that's sure to inspire laughter and perhaps even a tear or two. --Tami Horiuchi, Amazon.comSee all Product description

When I first went to see this film at the cinema, both me and my best friend really didn't enjoy it. But as I've 'matured' (ha!) over the years I've grown to enjoy chick flicks, but sadly this isn't one of those enjoyable films.
I'm not saying it's terrible, some parts are quite funny, and the actual plot is rather interesting and believable. Sadly though, the script is let down by the acting on Anne's part. I'm not sure why, but she doesn't feel believable to me while on the other hand Kate does.
I would suggest this film to someone for rainy day viewing, something to pass by the hours.
But if you want to own it on BLU RAY note that the American issue on 20th Century Fox is REGION A LOCKED - so it won't play on our machines unless they're chipped to be 'all regions' (which few are).
Opt for the UK issue instead - some have it on sale for peanuts...
Watching this comedy actually made me depressed. The two young ladies were so self-absorbed and shallow that their weddings - not their marriages - became the be-all and end-all of their lives and drove them to do outlandish (and possibly illegal) things. Their jealousy and drama about the Plaza, the dresses, the parties, etc. was so far-fetched that I couldn't relate. Anne Hathaway is lovely and comes off better than her co-star Hudson, but I still didn't like either one of the superficial, childish, and annoying characters.
If a fancy wedding party is your biggest goal in life, this may be the movie for you; if not, skip it.
Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson play childhood best friends who are as close as two people can be until there is a mix up with their wedding planner (played by Candace Bergen who is seeing something of a revival since her role in Boston Legal) and both have weddings booked at The Plaza on the same day.
Their competing soon turns into out and out sabotage - nonsense like trying to ensure the other gains weight so they no longer fit their Vera Wang wedding dress, and sneaking into the hair-dresser so hair is mistakenly dyed blue... petty and vindictive and wholly unrealistic.
But there's no denying that its pink-girliness is watchable and fun in its own way; it's as deep a puddle that's been baking in the sun all day, and as meaty as candy-floss, but it's certainly very feel-good. As I said, it's not as enjoyable as Legally Blonde and 13 Going on 30, but it's a nice escape from the real world for a couple of hours and it has a satisfyingly predictable ending.
Men, however, will hate it with the fire of a thousand suns, and any chap who is dragged to see this by his significant other and manages to make it all the way through... well, kudos, sir. Very big kudos indeed.
Due to the plot being pretty boring, the comedy also suffered. I think that with different writers maybe, Bride Wars would have been a whole lot funnier. There were definitely many places which could have been hilarious but instead, I just found myself staring at the TV. Considering the girls are out to sabotage each others' wedding, nothing massive was done in order to achieve this. The pranks that they played on each other could have been a whole lot better and there was nothing here that really made me even giggle a little bit. The pranks were just mundane and thoughtless.
Even though I really disliked the film, the acting was a much better. Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway are both great comedy actresses and they didn't disappoint in this film. I think both did the very best that could have been done with the script they were working with and would have been really funny if the script was as well. Both actresses are very different so I thought that the friendship chemistry between the two was fabulous and the different personalities bounced off of each other well.Read more ›
