Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Ironing is less of a chore with the Breville VIN158 steam iron. With a very powerful 2400 watts (W), it produces more steam and has a reduced heat-up time compared to lesser watt models helping you plough through your pile of laundry very quickly and efficiently. The job is made even easier thanks to the VIN158's ceramic soleplate which provides an incredibly smooth glide through the creased and crumpled clothes so there's no need to work up a sweat when tackling the chore.

This ceramic content affects how well the heat distributes throughout the soleplate, keeping it at the temperature selected and even throughout with no unwanted hot spots that could damage your clothes. It creates an easy and effortless glide during ironing with no snagging and it ensures long-life, protecting the soleplate against scratching and surface damage. The soleplate is also much larger than the industry standard helping you cover a greater surface area per stroke to save time and effort.

And the ceramic soleplate is given a brilliant boost by the Cerasol coating. This special finish is tough and hard-wearing, maintaining the initial smoothness of the soleplate for longer so that your iron maintains performance.

A fundamental principle of ironing is the more steam, the better and so the higher the steam ratings of the iron, the better it will be to use. An iron's steam ratings determine how easy it will be to use, how effective and efficient it is and therefore how much time you can save to do other, more exciting things with your time.

The VIN158 has an impressive 45 grams (g) of constant steam, also known as steam per minute, which is the amount of steam generated by the iron when in normal use. In addition to this, there is also a shot of steam, specifically a powerful 100g for the VIN158. This works as an extra boost to help remove those stubborn creases that refuse to budge or give that added crispness when creating creases on trousers. Completing the trio of essential steam features is the vertical steam function. This allows the iron to be used vertically to steam hanging clothes such as dresses or suits or household fabrics such as curtains, so however difficult, delicate or unwieldy the item, it can be thoroughly and properly ironed with ease.

And tackling those awkward places such as collars and in-between buttons is made more manageable thanks to the VIN158's Advanced Steam Tip technology. This allows you an extra burst of steam when you need it most to finish off even the most fiddly and frustrating of clothing items.

The Breville VIN158 boasts other handy design features to help you breeze through the work. These include:

  • Anti-scale. This function helps prevent the build-up of limescale in both the iron and on the soleplate to keep it performing at its best for as long as possible.
  • Anti-drip. Iron at low temperatures without any unwanted drips from the soleplate that can cause ugly, nuisance marks on your clothing and affect performance.
  • Self-clean. A cycle that flushes out impurities from the water via the holes in the soleplate.
  • Safety auto shut-off. The iron automatically switches off after a period of inactivity, typically about 10 minutes in an upright position or 30 seconds when horizontal, to provide peace of mind.
  • The iron features a large 400 millilitre (ml) water tank so you can store a considerable amount of water without having to constantly worry about re-filling it, which illuminates when in use. And when it is empty, the tank emits a beep or alarm thanks to the dry tank alert so you never need run dry.

The advanced digital display and controls improve the accuracy and ease of selecting and viewing your chosen temperature and it's fitted with an extensive 3 metre (m) cord making it very easy to move and handle when in use. Like the tank, the handle illuminates for striking effect Like the tank, the handle illuminates for striking effect and has a soft-touch, satin chrome finish that is ergonomic, comfortable and attractive. And adding to the eye-catching look of the iron is its sleek and modern violet, silver and black design.

This iron is fantastic, best iron i have ever owned. It is digital and lets you know when it is ready to iron and when the water is low! It has a 3 meter cord which is a bit longer than my last iron and makes things much easier! It has a ceramic soleplate which is really good and it takes me less time to do the ironing now.

Really nice iron. The temperature control is situated in the right place and you dont accidently alter the temperature as with my previous digital iron I kept pressing the plus and minus buttons without realising it. So overall I like this iron.

I bought this iron because it had great specs, was purple(!) and mainly because off the auto shut off (some people in my house are very forgetful!).

The good: it is extremely powerful and heats up quickly. The plate is a good size and makes getting into awkward corners easy. It beeps if you leave it on and does switch itself off. It is a good weight. It looks very pretty!

The Bad: The dial is awkward to read so we have had to memorise how many beeps are needed to get the right temp instead of having to try to read it. Unfortunately, the claim that it is non-drip simply isn't true. It spits everywhere. My clothes end up wetter than when I started. I sent back the first iron and received a replacement, (extremely quickly and without any bother from Amazon) which does exactly the same. This one will be going back too. It's a real shame as otherwise this would be the perfect iron, but I can't be doing with sopping wet clothes after ironing each time.

The Ugly: Ok, it's not ugly. It's the best looking iron ever - but I need one that does the job. I guess looks aren't everything!

Good iron, but the bleeping it makes if you leave it for even a few seconds, so annoying. It doesn't even allow time for folding the clothes, or going to get more water. Apart from the bleeping the iron is really good, three years later and it's still working, never had a problem and it looks nice.

Having just spent 2.5hrs wading through the massive ironing pile that had been building ever since my hubby disappeared off to uni with my old iron, i can safely say that it does exactly what it is supposed to. From a very girly point of view the iron glows beautifully, it heats up very quickly and alerts you by beeping when it is ready - other people mentioned that this beeping could be annoying as it beeps if you don't use it for a while - i didn't find this a problem, but then i don't often dissapear off in the middle of ironing and leave it on! Once that chore has been started i tend to want to get it all out of the way. This was a great value iron - much reduced from its RRP and hence within my budget and i am very pleased with it.

Great iron, irons well, however the bleeping is getting on my nerves and it takes ages to set to a lower temperature.

Undertook quite a bit of research on irons before I decided to purchase this product. Had it for a few months now
and originally was delighted by it. Now a few months on, the lid that is supposed to click over the water retainer no longer clicks into place and water tends to leak all over the place. Am now looking for a replacement.

I have had my iron for about 4 years and it has just stopped steaming during use but will still do powershots. It is time for a new one I think but I thought I would share my views on how this one has fared.

It had very powerful steam facility and looked great, but I have knocked it down two stars. One star deducted because it has now stopped steaming [is that harsh after 4 years?] and one star deducted because it is so noisy.

I know that sounds silly, but bear with me here. You plug it in and select the desired temperature by pressing the gauge. Each press you make causes the iron to emit a loud beep, so about 4 beeps to get it heating up. Then, just as it hits temperature it makes a metallic click noise then another loud beep to tell you it is at temperature. Any one of the beeps are at a volume loud enough to wake a sleeping baby.

Let me tell you, my children are really hard to get to sleep, and the only chance I get to sew is when they sleep. I get very grumpy when my sewing time is cut short by waking baby when I tried to sneak over and press some seams.

Of course, if you do not have a sleeping baby, I think you will get on with this iron. It has given 4 years good [but noisy] service.

PS it also beeps when you leave it standing for a few minutes. So when I sneak away from it to sew my next seam, baby is sometimes woken by beeep beeeep beeep when it thinks I have forgetten to turn it off.

The noise is the only reason why I am not buying Breville as a replacement.
