Developed with Warburtons toastie bread in mind, this means that you can at last toast to the top. The Ideal Fit

As well as being the right fit for Warburtons, this toaster is an ideal fit for most kitchens too. You will have full control over your toasting, with red illuminated control buttons, a variable browning control dial and a high lift facility meaning smaller slices or items such as bagels and crumpets can be easily removed without burning your fingers. Also with the Lift and Look facility, you can check on your toast’s progress without interrupting the toasting cycle. Should have been all downhill given the title! None of it.

Having hesitated for ages due to some picky reviews, I really wanted a tall slice toaster without having to fuss with a silly extra super long 2 slice sideways toaster that might take 4 small slices too... sort of thing.
None of the official 4 slice version of this toaster available anymore (shame).
So, I must have been mad, I still bought one.

SUPERB.
Evenly toasted - lovely - (in my experience keep the setting fairly low for a nice mid-dark browning).
No difficulty with the lever - anyone that had problems must have bent it or received a bent one???
DeFrost (extra) setting, reheat setting, OK the dial isn't marked in fluorescent yellow but it's not invisible.
Nice and deep, actually nice and wide too, automatic adjustable thickness as you lower the lever
Yeah bagels (in my case crumpets) pop high enough
Someone said you can't put muffins / teacakes in ?? Maybe they didn't split them first ?? - no problems for me!
- yes it does almost jump up when finished - but not like a Morecombe & Wise comedy sketch.
- you can also check at any point by lifting the level without cancelling the 'toasting session'
- yes it is 'a bit taller' ...but think about it ...it's for 'a bit taller' bread, it's not a Tardis.

Good and quick. Don't be fooled by the wattage, compared to many four slice it seems low, but think about it
...it's a two slice toaster, so actually doesn't take long and does a great job so far.

If you actually do get one that's not good then send it back - nothing in life is 100% sadly.
There could be an occasional 'Friday afternoon one' in ANY product these days
- if you believe all the persnickety reviews written sometimes. So far, my toaster is great :)

Oh yes, there's no "Warburtons" label on the toaster now, so nothing to have to remove and leave a sticky residue.
Don't wait so flippin' long like I did - buy one and enjoy your toast at last without spending a fortune...

Slow and uneven toasting. Permanently broken after less than 2 years.

It's long annoyed me that toaster manufacturers and bread makers can't seem to talk to each other and agree what size a slice should be, so when I found this toaster, specifically designed for my favourite white loaf, I was delighted.

I should have heeded the negative reviews. This thing toasts very slowly and very unevenly. You can see that the elements are positioned a long way from the surface of the bread, and that they glow with very uneven brightness. Your toast ends up with some spots overdone while others are barely brown at all. I've used it about 30 times now so I know it's not just the elements needing to "bed in", it isn't getting any better.

Worst of all, the slots *still* aren't big enough. They're taller than a normal toaster, but a slice of Toastie still sticks out of the top a little. It's better to put the bread in sideways, but it doesn't always fit well.

On the bright side, it mostly seems fairly well built, and the facility to lift the toast right up to check it without stopping and restarting is welcome. However there is one exception to the build quality and that's the main handle itself, which is very lightweight plastic and feels like it will be the first thing to break. Since that is the one thing you touch every time you use the toaster, it makes the toaster feel cheap.

At the end of the day, it does produce more or less acceptable (if uneven) toast, but it's clearly not worth the price. My last toaster was a cheap own-brand 4-slice one (of the kind with 2 double-length slots) and I used to put the bread in sideways. That worked much better than this one does, and it cost a third of the price.

EDIT: After approx 20 months of careful use, the handle broke off. No excessive force was used, it's either just a bad design, or intentionally designed to break after a while to make you buy another one... I will not be buying another Breville, that's for sure. Reduced from 2 stars to 1.

I searched High and low for this toaster. Finally a toaster which toasts the whole slice. I have never been happy with any toaster that i have ever used before this one from £6 toasters to £50 toasters they none of them ever toasted satisfactorily and as I predominantly eat toast for breakfast it seemed worth while to do some research and not settle for less than a proper job. I rarely eat sliced packet bread ,sorry Warburtons, but i do eat fresh bakery bread in all different shapes and sizes and so far this toaster copes with it all. It doesn't have a bun warmer but I prefer buns and croissant etc heated in the oven so that isn't a problem for me. There are no numbers on the dial but hey I never found the numbers to mean anything on previous toasters anyway so just the same it is trial and error to start with. I have mine set about a third of the way round and that gives me a light golden brown on everything .A very useful feature is the ability to raise your toast and check how brown it is without having to interrupt the toasting and start again which invariably leads to burnt toast so this is very welcome especially as I have different types of bread all the time. It is very reasonably priced too and chrome goes with everything so unless you prefer a colour scheme to decent toast ,this is the toaster for all toast lovers.
