About the Author
Though Colorado is home, Carol Berg's roots are in Texas, in a family of teachers, musicians, and railroad men. She has degrees in mathematics from Rice University and computer science from the University of Colorado, but managed to squeeze in minors in English and art history along the way. She has combined a career as a software engineer with her writing, while also raising three sons. She lives with her husband at the foot of the Colorado mountains. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The land of Navronne is still sinking deeper into civil war and it's population is threatened by famine and disease. Valen is now firmly at the centre of events and for better or worse everyone wants to get their hands on him. As he is trying to sort friend from foe, some of the secrets of the past catch up with him and his life takes a turn he did not anticipate in even his wildest dreams.
Risking all to rescue one child, seek justice for another and bring the dying land its rightful king, Valen discovers the glorious , terrible price of the land's redemption - and his own.
This second book was just as riveting as the first and took both, foreseeable and as well as unexpected twists and turns with a great ending. I would like Carol Berg's style to that of Robin Hobb. Quirky and unusual.
