I purchased this book for my wife as she struggled with breast feeding when we had our first child. She only manage it for a couple of days and really wanted to do better this time. The book was a wonderful help, the information within it is very clear and helpful, everything is logical and set out in a manner that makes applying it practically really straight forward. The book helped greatly and I'd highly recommend it to anyone out there who just needs a bit of direction and a helping hand.

This is a very short concise introduction to breastfeeding. I was quite disappointed that there seemed to be more time spent discussing the other alternatives to breastfeeding and weaning. I strongly disagree with the author that you should stop breastfeeding when your baby may want other food. In the UK, food before one is just for fun and therefore the main source of nutrition is milk in either form. I did not find this very insightful, but can see the merit of free information on breastfeeding.

HASH(0x8aa996fc) out of 5 stars Pass on this "guide" 12 Sept. 2014
By Canoncowgirl - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
This guide is poorly written, full of typos, and provides only the most basic of information. Honesty I have to assume the five star ratings are coming from friends of the author.

Here's a sample of the writing: "There also needs to be a detachment between mother and child after so long. You’d want to stop breastfeeding after so long so that an unhealthy attachment does not occur after too long...So remember to breastfeed your child, but don’t do so too long." Umm..'kay.

The author isn't a doctor or a lactation expert of any sort. Even as a first time mom who only knows basic breast feeding info, I didn't find anything presented here to be new or helpful information. Pass on this "guide" and go with something written by an expert.

HASH(0x8ae194d4) out of 5 stars An Absolute 'MUST' for all new mothers! 18 July 2014
By Polina - Published on Amazon.com

I wish I had purchased this book before my children were born! I had read several books and articles on breastfeeding, attended classes, and talked with lactation consultants before I started breastfeeding. They helped somewhat yet I feel that this book provides the best 'all around' common sense advice! Both my children were not particularly interested in breastfeeding after birth. My initial attempts were difficult but with the help of family members, I was able to breastfeed successfully. However, once I went back to work I began to have difficulty keeping my milk production up and this book provides some very good advice which I could've used with my children! I like the fact that she explains things yet simply and in a very non-stressful way! Again, I wished I had read this book before my children were born because I think I would have had an easier time with the blessed art of breastfeeding! I recomend this book to any mother who is considering breastfeeding her child.

HASH(0x8a70b720) out of 5 stars Not a serious breastfeeding guide 12 July 2014
By Jenny Wingler - Published on Amazon.com

If you're really serious about breastfeeding this is NOT the book for you. The author beings the book by saying that it's highly recommended to wean your baby from breastmilk at 6 months, later insinuating that it creates an unhealthy bond. That is very poor advice. Babies should be able to breastfeed for at least one year & ideally until they self wean. It's just an very general book, not well done. I'd pick a different breastfeeding book any day (try The Nursing Mother's Companion)
HASH(0x8c210468) out of 5 stars Don't waste your money on this poorly written pamphlet 20 Nov. 2014
By KJ - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Don't waste your money on this poorly written pamphlet. It is full of typos and grammatical errors (including one in the title), and the "information" presented is not consistent with current research - for example, the author states that it is not recommended to breastfeed your baby past six months of age, which is absolutely incorrect. I had the same thought as a previous reviewer that the 5-star reviews must have been written by friends of the author. There is nothing useful in here and the author is clearly not qualified to be providing information about breastfeeding to anyone.
HASH(0x8a6f0954) out of 5 stars Great Resource! 11 July 2014

I wish I had this book when I began nursing my first child. You sometimes feel like such a failure as a mother and a lot of women hate to turn to a lactation specialist. I'm really glad I have this on my Kindle as a resource when I nurse my next child. Every little bit helps when you bring your little one home!
