Break Even is a standalone book told from Marley's P.O.V.

First of all I have to say that I LOVED this book! I was a bit hesitant when I first started to read it as I don't particularly like reading books where there is cheating involved, but I'm SO glad I did because I loved every second of it!
I can't go into specifics about the story too much as it will totally ruin the book as there were so many twists in this story that you just did t see coming at all.
Marley is a lawyer working in a law firm with her husband Cole, a law firm they both own together having been left to them by Cole's father. Things aren't exactly going great between them, having been together for 11 years and married for 4, Cole always seems to be away for work and when he's home he is more interested in making the law firm more successful than spending time with his wife.
Enter Marley's new client River Holtz, who needs her help with purchasing a building to turn into a nightclub.
When they first meet there is an attraction between them, but more than anything they seem to banter between themselves and Marley can definitely handle herself with the hot River Holtz.
The relationship between Marley and River builds over days of spending so much time together and I loved seeing how it unfolded between them.
There are some really shocking discoveries for Marley and this had me completely gripped, rushing to finish to find out what would happen in the end. I devoured this book in one sitting and no doubt anyone else who reads it will devour it as quick as I did.
This is a gripping, edge of your seat nail biting rollercoaster of a ride!
4 Stars from me!

Oh WOW, what a fantastic book that kept me riveted all through the read. On the edge of my seat right until the very end. I have read this author before and lets face it she writes some damn good books.
Marley and Cole are married and own and run a lawyers office. Although they do really well, Cole wants more and is away on business a lot with new clients drumming up more business. Their marriage is starting to suffer, Marley is lonely, unhappy but plodding along none the less trying to keep her marriage together.
One day River Holtz walks in to her office and requires some legal advice on a new nightclub he is thinking of purchasing. He is cocky, sure of himself, good looking, sexy and Marley enjoys the snide comments and banter between them at first, but then their relationship turns into so much more as they see each other so often. The attraction is undeniable, even though Marley fights it all the way. What Marley is unprepared for is how much this "relationship" between River and herself will have devastating effects for her future.
A remarkable book in the fact that there were so many twists and turns, surprises and shocks, my head couldn't keep up with them all, but in the best kind of way !! It is a brilliant brilliant book, a roller coaster of a ride that you never want to step off. A must read !!!!!!

Break Even by Lisa de Jong
4.5 stars!!

“I can’t go on much longer…not like this.”

So, Lisa de Jong really got me with this one. This was a book I went into totally blind, for me the best way and while I was expecting the emotional being that this is Lisa de Jong what she also delivered was that air of mystery too. This is a standalone read that is fast paced, intense, sexy and has twists and turns that I didn’t see coming.

“We’re stronger than our mistakes.”

Marley Mason has been with her husband since college, they had matured together and followed each other through law school, both becoming lawyers and then taking over Cole’s father’s law firm. Marley had always followed Cole, even though she was a hard headed lawyer, as far as Cole was concerned she was soft putty in his hands.

Cole Mason was a lawyer personified, he lived for work and making money and he wanted lots of it, success was his motivation. With more and more hours spent at work and away on business he always put the law firm first with Marley coming in second. While in the beginning Cole was the attentive husband Marley has been feeling the distance between them growing on a daily basis, in fact, she has never felt so alone. Being left behind once again, Marley throws herself into work and the client that Cole that has passed onto her as once again he is away on business.

“Sometimes having everything means nothing at all.”

River Holtz is a club owner that is desperate to open another club in an area that is fiercely contesting the planning; he needs Marley’s help in trying to get the permits he needs. River exudes confidence and charisma and is a total flirt and he doesn’t tamper down his charms on Marley.

No spoilers! I absolutely love this author. Her work always makes me sit back and think about life, how we perceive people and situations, and about what I would do. Buy this book. Read it. And know that that can never go wrong with Lisa de Jong. 😊
