As an update
After having the speaker for just over a month, it just stopped working. Would not power on or off although the power light did come on when attempting to charge. Amazon arranged a replacement within a few days, however, I am getting to doubt the build quality as when charging the new unit, the charger itself fused. As the charger has a USB lead, this is not an issue however, at this price I would expect better. I have amended the review down to 3 from a 5.
On a positive, the more I listen to the unit, you get to appreciate the sound quality.
CONS: limited bass; average speakerphone; expensive compared to good digital radios.
SUMMARY: no substitute for home hi-fi, but with limitations a very good portable solution.
ONE WEEK LATER
Still pleased with the product, which is significantly enhanced by device-based equalisers. If your phone lacks one there is a very good app at the Google Store which includes a base-boost. I needed this for radio stations as my phone-based EQ only worked for music downloads. The resulting sound is pleasing, although not really able to compete with decent home hi-fi, or headphones.
The speakerphone works fine incoming, but they will have difficulty hearing you (unless it's right up against your face - like a phone!!) so it's not a lot of use.
This product is the best solution when a portable speaker is needed for specific situations involving more than one person, such as the beach, or with friends when you can all share the music on your phones. On your own in the house, the bathroom is the obvious scenario. Other than that you might find that the cheaper option of head/earphones is better, given the improved sound quality. Also, as I hinted earlier, given the expense you may wish to consider a good digital radio (especially one with usb/internet capability).
Excellent sound quality FOR THE SIZE. It's about the same size as a box of after eights, bit slimmer. You probably can get better quality from a box of this size tm but you will pay dearly for it.
The phone charger feature didnt work very well (although I would have appreciated what little juice it would deliver.)
The battery light wasn't very informative, but then it didn't need to be as it hardly ever ran out.
I sold mine to "upgrade" to the 710, which has much worse battery life (suspect to do with its power down behaviour) despite being listed at the same size, is less stable on uneven surfaces due to the big base pad and the "big buttons" are just little buttons with big covers, so you sometimes have to fumble around. I also suspect that the sound quality and volume are a little less but i never compared them side by side. The one advantage is the water resistance, but then I used the 600 in the bathroom and kitchen all the time, with no problems.
If I bought another one I would get this or the 650 if I could, save money and better performsnce.
It came within 36hrs of ordering, was well packaged and easy to get out of the packet. I say that as a few reviewers have said how hard that was. There were all the plug adapters, to charge it from the mains, for anywhere one could wish to go to, a simple 3.5mm audio lead about 45mm long, a usb lead to charge from my computer and a very simple and unclear set of instructions and a web site to go to for the full instructions.
The speaker was a simple case made from thick aluminium with a perforated face on the front. The switches were quite fiddly being on the side of the speaker and small. Once charged it was easy to get sound by simple plugging in the audio lead and switching on. The speaker worked without having to go into my laptop settings.
Whilst the quality of the sound was good across all sorts of music it just lacked something that I would have expected at this price bracket. I was fortunate at the time in having 3 other speakers to try it against. One an expensive but slightly smaller speaker and two slightly bigger speakers of which one was an old Ipod dock about twice the size. In comparing the speakers the Brazen simply couldn't provide the depth of sound and clarity of either of the slightly bigger speakers but that is not to say it wasn't very good. Because of this I never tested the bluetooth facility.
Although I wanted a smaller speaker I feel I still haven't found one yet that provides me with the quality of sound I am used to from my 10 year old reasonably cheap Ipod dock. Maybe size really is a major factor if you want good sound?

Performed and sounded amazing for it's size. Definitely worth it for a kitchen party. Volume could definitely be cranked up more than enough.Published on 25 Nov. 2013 by Ammar Arsyad
